Immunization Compliance with Public Health Standards Tasks
1. Pull schedule the day before patients are seen and if time permits, check to see if all children are up to date, (UTD), on their vaccinations.
2. If any child is not UTD, investigate why. Check the state website, imprint, and then check the last doctor’s office the child had an appointment with. Check all of our EMR records during investigation. If a current immunization record cannot be found and the child is not UTD, will discuss shots with the parent/caregiver at the child’s appointment the following day.
3. On the following day, at each child’s appointment, if unsuccessful at finding a current vaccination record, talk with each parent/caregiver to see if they have a record with them or know who we can call to get the UTD record.
4. If a child is behind on a vaccination(s) and is too sick for immunization(s), make sure that the parent/caregiver makes a follow-up visit for the next immunization(s) or an immunization(s) the child has missed. Calculate the time on these vaccinations to make sure they are given in the proper sequence. ***NOTE*** Vaccinations cannot just be given at any time. They have specific months between the sequences.
5. After all of this has been completed and the child is well enough to get the immunization(s), administer the vaccination(s).
6. Make the parent/caregiver a blue card for school, a copy for the parent/caregiver’s records, charts all of the vaccinations in our EMR, and puts the child’s immunization(s) in the state website, imprint.
7. Keep a handwritten ledger with all of the vaccinations we administer which helps with ordering.
8. Keep imprint up to date with our active patients and take out any inactive patients.
