Summary of Position: Lake Mary Preparatory School was founded in 1999 and continues to be one of the top co-educational, private, international prep schools in Seminole County serving students in grades PreK 3 through 12. We are seeking a passionate, forward-thinking Upper School Spanish Teacher to join our engaged and dedicated World Language Department. We are redefining education by prioritizing true understanding, student engagement, and real-world application. We seek educators who inspire curiosity, encourage deep thinking, and equip students with the confidence to communicate authentically in a second language. Qualified candidates must be proficient in teaching Spanish I through AP Spanish to Upper School students. The ideal candidate is a dynamic educator who embraces proficiency-based instruction aligned with ACTFL standards, creates an immersive learning environment, uses a comprehensible input (CI) approach, and values cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement engaging, student-centered lessons that emphasize language acquisition through comprehensible input (CI), authentic communication, and cultural exploration.
- Foster an interactive, inquiry-driven classroom where students build proficiency through meaningful conversations, storytelling, music, media, and real-world applications.
- Encourage risk-taking and a growth mindset, creating a safe space for students to develop fluency and confidence.
- Use ACTFL proficiency guidelines to assess and guide student progress, focusing on communication skills rather than rote memorization.
- Provide constructive, ongoing feedback to help students develop language skills naturally and authentically.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, develop cross-disciplinary opportunities, and integrate language learning across subjects.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, ensuring all students progress in their language acquisition journey.
- Incorporate 21st-century skills and technology to enhance learning and connect students to global perspectives.
- Engage with parents and guardians to support student growth and progress in language proficiency.
Qualifications Needed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and prior classroom experience required; teaching certificate strongly preferred
- Experience teaching Spanish I through AP Spanish in an engaging, student-centered environment.
- Commitment to comprehensible input (CI), proficiency-based instruction, and ACTFL-aligned teaching.
- A passion for authentic cultural integration and creating immersive learning experiences.
- Strong collaboration skills and a desire to innovate within a dynamic learning community.
- Experience in UbD planning, inquiry-based learning, and/or interdisciplinary collaboration is preferred.
