Job Description
Spray Technician
Reports to: Grounds Maintenance Superintendent
FLSA Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Job Tasks/Duties
- Selects and appropriately applies all pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers associated with grounds.
- Inspects turf, shrub, lakes and other outdoor club areas to determine pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer needs.
- Applies pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer at appropriate times to maintain excellent condition of grounds and residential.
- Sprays prescribed amounts of fertilizer, insecticide, herbicide and fungicide using hoses and truck mounted tank, taking care not to injure turf or shrubs.
- Fills sprayer tank with chemicals and water according to formula using hose or pump.
- Pulls spray hose from truck mounted reel, turns knob, presses lever and points nozzle selected according to site characteristics, such as type of infestation, wind direction and velocity, and terrain.
- Uses portable spray equipment.
- Sprays chemicals on grounds and residential areas.
- Assists Grounds Superintendent with correct calibrations of all spray equipment.
- Controls all insects, diseases and weeds on grounds and residential areas.
- Maintains designated 160-gallon sprayer on a daily basis.
- Assists Grounds Superintendent in planning current and long-range spray programs.
- Maintains daily spray records.
- Selects products and equipment.
- Selects suppliers.
- Purchases products and equipment as needed, while staying within the budget.
- Assists Grounds Superintendent in maintaining proper chemical inventory.
- Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment.
- Keeps accurate records on all equipment.
- Attains and maintains Certified Application Specialist licenses as required.
- Maintains safety records.
- Trains and supervises staff as needed.
- Performs all other duties as required.
Requirements
Essential Requirements & Qualifications
· Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License.
· Associate degree in turfgrass management/golf course management or related field or equivalent experience.
· Three years work experience in grounds maintenance & spray operations.
· Knowledge of chemical related applications.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
· This position includes (long periods of) climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling and repetitive motions.
· Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
· Must be able to navigate through rough and uneven terrain.
· Must have ability to work in hot and muggy conditions on continuous basis.
· Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions.
· Must be physically able to do assigned work as outlined above.
· Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
