Assistant Head of School for Upper School
Lake Norman Christian School (LKNC) is a Christ-centered, college-preparatory school committed to nurturing and challenging our students academically, spiritually, and socially. As we continue to grow rapidly, we seek a dedicated and experienced Assistant Head of School for Upper School to lead our students and faculty in grades 6-12, in alignment with our mission and the ACSI Statement of Faith.
The Assistant Head of School for Upper School is a key leadership role, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Upper School (grades 6-12). This includes the spiritual, academic, and social development of students, as well as ensuring a supportive and enriching environment for teachers and staff. The ideal candidate will be an inspiring educational leader, passionate about guiding both students and faculty as we elevate engagement and uphold a biblical worldview throughout the educational process.
Key Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership
- Model and promote the integration of faith and learning across all Upper School activities.
- Lead devotionals, prayer, and other spiritual activities that foster a strong community centered in Christ.
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure the alignment of curriculum and programs with biblical principles and the ACSI statement of belief.
Academic Leadership
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of the academic program for grades 6-12.
- Support and guide department chairs and teachers in developing rigorous and engaging curriculum, with an emphasis on critical thinking, creativity, and Christian worldview integration.
- Ensure the effective use of assessments to monitor student progress and adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
Student Development
- Foster a culture that promotes student leadership, positive behavior, and academic excellence.
- Ensure the effective implementation of guidance, advising, and college preparatory programs to support students' academic and personal growth.
- Work with families to address student concerns and assist in the resolution of academic or behavioral issues, prioritizing restorative approaches whenever possible.
Faculty & Staff Leadership
- Hire, mentor, and evaluate Upper School faculty and staff, with final hiring decisions made in collaboration with the Head of School, fostering a culture of continuous professional growth and collaboration.
- Provide professional development opportunities that align with LKNC’s mission, promoting best practices in education and faith integration.
- Support faculty in their personal spiritual growth and professional well-being.
School Culture & Community Engagement
- Develop and maintain a culture that values each student’s unique gifts, emphasizing a holistic approach to education.
- Engage with families and the greater community to foster relationships, create connections, and promote LKNC’s programs.
- Collaborate with the Head of School and administrative team to support school-wide initiatives, communicate policies, and advance the school's growth.
Qualifications
- A deep and mature Christian faith with a commitment to the ACSI statement of belief.
- Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of educational leadership experience, ideally in a Christian school setting.
- Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop a team of teachers, promoting a professional culture rooted in a shared mission.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with students, parents, staff, and the wider community.
- Ability to balance the demands of a rapidly growing school with grace, organization, and strategic vision.
