- Exhibit compliance with regulations and speech-language pathology assistant’s job responsibilities and keeps accurate and detailed records/documentation of direct and indirect observation self assessment, feedback, time-logs, activity records, continuing education documentation, and individual learning plans
- Participates in faculty meetings and committees as requested by the SLP.
- Participates in conferences and in-services trainings as requested by the SLP.
- Participates in research, development, reviews, and data collection of best practice patterns as requested by the SLP.
- The SLP-A must have one of the following:
- Associate’s degree from a SLP-A program recognized by ASHA;
- Bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology
- Associate’s and/or Bachelor’s degree by accredited institution and 80 or more observation hours of an ASHA accredited SLP
- Completion of training program that is 40 or more hours of instruction and and is competency based, that has been turned in and approved by the Georgia state board
- Fieldwork experience of a minimum of 80 clock hours
- Experience in a school setting, particularly with literacy and language interventions.
- Knowledge of phonemic awareness, vocabulary development, and classroom-based language strategies.
- Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools.
- Experience working with school-aged children, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to follow therapy plans and adapt strategies to meet student needs.
- Works primarily in elementary school classrooms, resource rooms, and speech therapy spaces.
- Engages with students, teachers, and support staff in a dynamic school environment.

Job Summary:
The School-Based Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLP-A), as a member of the Lake Oconee Academy team, works under the supervision of of a certified speech-language pathologist in implementation of services for children/students with speech, language, cognitive, voice, oral muscular, augmentative/alternative communication disorders, and hearing impairments.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Assists the SLP with speech-language and hearing screenings (without clinical interpretation of results).
2.Assist with informal documentation as directed by the speech-language pathologist.
3.Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising speech-language pathologist.
4.Have full knowledge of and in complete compliance with ASHA Code of Ethics, ASHA guidelines for SLP-As, and regulatory/licensure laws, and all facilities guidelines and protocols where SLP-A is working.
5.Document student performance (e.g. tallying data for the speech language pathologist to use, preparing charts, records, and graphs) and report this information to the supervising speech-language pathologist.
6.Assist SLP during the assessment of students.

The SLP-A is directly and indirectly supervised by a certified SLP. The supervising SLP maintains legal and moral responsibility for all services provided by the SLP=A, and ensures that such services are in compliance with the ASHA Code of Ethics, ASHA Guidelines for SLP-As, state and regulatory/licensure laws, and the school guidelines and procedures.
