Position Summary:
Functions as an integral part of a service team utilizing advanced customer service skills. Provides support to the Human Resources function including specialist advice and guidance on employee relations, labor relations, employment policies and compensation and benefits practices. Participates in the development of new/revised Human Resources policies. Provides consultative direction on best HR practices in specific situations. Organizes and completes special projects
Essential Functions and Responsibilities as Assigned:
- The HR Consultant leads human resources practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented high-performance culture that emphasizes. empowerment, quality, productivity, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.
- Serves as the primary contact person for managers and employees concerning human resources policies, procedures, and practices. Assists others in the interpretation and application of human resources policies, procedures, practices and labor contracts.
- Conducts investigations to recommend appropriate action to managers in areas of harassment and other alleged misconduct.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and communication of human resources policies and procedures.
- Responsible for union grievances and supports the arbitration process.
- May attend and participate in contract negotiations. May assist in preparation for negotiations and arbitration hearings.
- Meets with employees and managers upon notice of termination.
- Works with third party administrators to facilitate and resolve unemployment claims.
- Reviews and evaluates below standard performance reviews and discusses strategies with department supervisor.
- Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of current human resources policies, procedures, and practices.
- Guides and counsels others in the interpretation and application of human resources policies, procedures, and practices.
- Accurately interprets and applies the provisions of union contracts.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills in demanding situations.
- Makes sound decisions in human resources issues where there is no written policy or established practice.
- Understands wage and salary administration including pay structure analysis skills.
- Maintains knowledge, coordinates and assists in communication and implementation of system-wide initiatives related to benefit changes, compensation, retirement services, HRIS and open enrollment.
- Ability to search out and apply human resources best practices.
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of directly related human resource experience
- OR
- Associate degree with 3 years of directly related human resource experience
Qualifications:
- Preferred
- Labor Relations experience
- Human resource experience in healthcare
- SPHR or PHR certification
