What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buildings and Grounds position at Lake Orion?
To maintain the physical school facilities, grounds, and other district buildings in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety, so that full use may be made of these facilities at all times. To perform a variety of tasks in the care and maintenance of district buildings, grounds and athletic fields.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year successful prior experience in building maintenance and landscaping work preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Valid Michigan Driver’s license and good driving record.
- Post-offer employment physical may be required.
- Demonstrate knowledge in operation and care of all equipment necessary for the care of school grounds.
- Demonstrate knowledge in carpentry, electrical, masonry, plumbing, heating, cooling, and welding.
- Demonstrate knowledge in the care of lawn, athletic fields.
- Knowledge in landscaping.
- Basic knowledge of occupational hazards and precautions of the work.
- Good interpersonal and basic communication skills.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Care for all lawn areas including athletic fields by watering, mowing, seeding, fertilizing, and spraying as needed.
- Operate equipment such as mowers, edgers, trimmers, hedgers, leaf blowers.
- Prepare athletic fields for appropriate activities as prescribed by responsible administrator or supervisor.
- Care for hedges, shrubs, trees, including pruning, minor trimming, brush removal, and disease and pest control.
- Plant seeds, bulbs, and annuals as needed and provide care for them throughout their growing season.
- Respond to any maintenance emergency that arises, (i.e. plumbing problems, broken windows, locks, doors, vandalism repairs, etc.).
- Maintain repair of equipment including responsibility for all grounds related equipment.
- Perform snow and ice remove from sidewalks, entryways, and driveways, and spread sand or salt to prevent slipping.
- Must be available on weekends and midnights from November 1 to April 1 for snow removal.
- Performs plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, heating, cooling, and welding.
- Performs ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
- Move equipment and materials within and between buildings.
- Collect and dispose of leaves and refuse as necessary.
- Responsible for setting up and tearing down of equipment during special events; graduation, conference, concerts, etc.
- Operate district equipment, including vehicles, in order to perform assigned tasks.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside but will also work outside. The employee must be able to lift over 50 pounds. Head of Building and Grounds will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk, and will occasionally be required to reach with hands and arms and repeat the same hand/arm motion many times while performing this job.
