Job Summary
The School Psychologist works within an assigned Elementary, Middle, and/or High School building, and provides a variety of services, including special education evaluations, social skills and behavioral training and student support, collaboration with school staff, consultation with parents and teachers, intervention development and implementation, and data analysis. The School Psychologist is responsible for the delivery of psychological services for those students referred to special education in accordance with current federal and state regulations.

  • Administer a variety of assessments following established protocols to complete comprehensive IDEA compliant evaluations. Tests may include, but are not limited to: individual intelligence tests, achievement tests, social skills, behavioral rating scales, etc.
  • Analyze and accurately interpret student academic and behavioral data to parents, teachers, administrators and other professional staff
  • Ability to problem-solve complex, unique student situations; as well as provide leadership to guide a team in making appropriate recommendations for student programming based upon individual student need and a variety of data points
  • Evaluate and interpret assessments in verbal and written form utilizing sound professional judgment; recommend targeted interventions, recommend student placement into appropriate programs or classes; coordinate the procurement of necessary information and forms required for placing minors
  • Utilize good professional judgement to make data-based decisions based upon data, which may also include discrepant data
  • Work collaboratively as a team member with data teams, intervention teams, and on threat assessments.
  • Conduct functional behavioral assessments.
  • Assist in developing behavior intervention plans.
  • Have an understanding of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and be able to recommend effective interventions based upon student need. Assist with developing intervention programs.
  • Consult with other agencies and professionals, both public and private, for the purpose of correlating all available information regarding individual cases
  • Consult with individual students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other professional staff regarding student potential and achievement level to aid in understanding and placing each student; recommend ways to help student or recommend sources of further assistance
  • Lead professional development in assigned building regarding interventions and special education process and procedures.
  • Act as a liaison with community professionals.
  • Monitor compliance with assessment and IEPs; provide case management for students referred for special education
  • Participate in faculty and staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements

  • This position requires a Master’s Degree in School Psychology.
  • Hold a valid Washington State ESA certificate with endorsement as a School Psychologist
  • Have comprehensive knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies governing special education
  • Have knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental disabilities
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and communicate results to a diverse audience
  • Skill in providing culturally responsive services to student and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Skill in systems evaluation, complex problem solving and inductive reasoning
  • Have strong organizational and time management skills, as well as a strong work ethic
  • Incumbent must be fingerprinted and clear a criminal background check.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and talk or hear, and occasionally required to sit. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk, may occasionally push or lift up to 35 pounds, such as boxes of books and audio carts. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and staff.
