Details
Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) District announces the opportunity to work in information technology as the System Administrator I. Information technology plays an important role supporting educational services and providing access to the students of LTCC. It is committed to providing a secure learning and work environment for the district.

The System Administrator I serves as a system developer and backup programmer.

The Information Technology Department is part of Administrative Services, which provides the campus with essential services to ensure the ongoing operations of the college. Each of the departments within Administrative Services provides critical support to ensure continued safe and sound operations of the college. The Information Technology department supports virtually all areas of the College.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
After review, suitable applicants will be invited by phone or email on or around Wednesday, April 23, 2025 to participate in a skills assessment. Successful candidates will then be interviewed by a committee of approximately 3-5 individuals; these interviews are tentatively scheduled for May 6, 2025. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview. LTCC reserves the right to return to the applicant pool at any point during the recruitment process.

Salary Range: LTCC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a starting placement salary of $68,912 to $76,058 annually, dependent on education and experience. There is potential to reach $88,108 annually, through step advancement plus longevity when appropriate. In addition to base salary, this position qualifies for extra bilingual (Spanish), masters or doctorate pay.
Benefits: Health and Welfare benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and long term disability. Several plan options maintain a zero monthly premium cost from the employee and include full coverage of a gold-level medical plan that, on average, covers 80% of healthcare expenses for a standard population. LTCC also matches 27% of an eligible employee’s salary and contributes it into a CalPERS pension account for qualifying employees.
Work-Life Balance: This position is 40 hours per week and 12 months per year, including summer and winter hours. Hours are expected to be Monday-Friday, shifts will be within center hours of 8 am to 5 pm, hours may vary according to the needs of the program. This position is eligible for overtime compensation (non-exempt). This position may qualify for LTCC’s telecommute program, which allows employees the opportunity to telecommute for up to 20% of the work week after completion of a three-month qualifying period.
LTCC provides a generous leave package including 17 paid holidays per year plus 12 days vacation (with the potential to reach 24 days through years of service) and 12 days sick leave per year. Furthermore, LTCC has made a commitment to full closures during holiday breaks and several weekends adjoining holidays to provide employees the ability to take advantage of holiday and vacation usage.

Description
Definition:
Under the direction of Director of Information Technology Services, operate, maintain, administer, and develop systems to integrate third-party systems with the Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) SIS; manage login and email accounts for various systems; manage the college’s Single Sign-On system; manage the college’s TLS certificates and portal; provide backup support to other college programmers.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
The System Administrator I serves as a system developer and backup programmer. It is distinguished from the Systems Administrator II by the direct responsibility for the technical design, implementation, operation, and performance of LTCC systems as well as integrity of institutional data and application security.

Representative Duties:
Provide technical, analytical and process support for assigned system areas; provide support for student information system, and linked systems for tracking, scheduling, transcripts, emergency alerts and transmittals; analyze, design, document, implement and create computer processes and interfaces; participate in the programming of assigned applications and programs.
Provide technical support to assigned areas for integrated databases, applications and peripheral systems as assigned; participate in the review and definition of functional areas, processes, procedures, organization, flow of data, methods and forms to automate or improve existing systems; explain and interpret complex data, workflow rules and best practices for a non-technical audience.
Authenticate identity of users; manage user accounts; sync accounts from SIS to LDAP and from AD to the Cloud; maintain serves and manage the authentication and authorization with external services.
Maintain email accounts; monitor mail flow issues, policies, licensing of software applications.
Analyze data for reports and report requirements, including mandated reports; serve as liaison between users and staff regarding assessment and development of reporting needs; explore innovations and trends in technology for institutional applicability; make recommendations for information and communication system improvements using current and optimal technology.
Generate, update and distribute instructional documentation and train end users in system features and usage; oversee and maintain procedural documentation; develop procedures to increase efficiency and effectiveness of system support, operations and interface; oversee assessment, process mapping and business workflow criteria.
Implement new releases, upgrades and patches for web-based applications; perform initial testing utilizing test environments and release versions to users; correct discovered defects; implement new releases to production environment upon completion of user testing.
Implement and provide support to third-party systems.
Prepare and maintain a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to assigned activities; create and maintain documentation on all integration processes.
Provide technical information and assistance to the Director regarding assigned functions; assist in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and programs.
Prepare and maintain a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to assigned activities; communicate with other administrators, personnel and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information.
Assist with CCCApply processes and maintenance while reviewing applications to combat fraud while remaining accessible and available for all potential students regardless of any diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, or ethnic backgrounds.
Administer Colleague (Student Information System) maintenance and updates while ensuring data integrity, configuration changes, and Ethos/API integrations.
Operate a computer and assigned software programs; operate other office equipment as assigned.
Attend and conduct a variety of meetings as assigned; participate in internal and external user groups; serve on assigned committees.
Serve on a variety of District committees as requested. Participate in district all staff events including but not limited to all campus team building day, convocation, state of the college address, senior day, and graduation.

Education and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, computer science, and three years of experience in programming and system administration including integrating applications, administering relational databases, and administration of SharePoint sites. Familiarity with Microsoft technologies (ASP.NET, ASP, IIS, SQL Server, and Windows application server) as well as a working knowledge of markup and scripting languages.
Extensive knowledge and/or experience in the above areas are considered equivalent to a bachelor’s degree as it pertains to this classification.

  • Manage and maintain Ellucian Colleague staff and faculty user web sites, including Colleague Self-Service and Ellucian Experience Portal.
  • Manage and maintain college TLS certificates.
  • Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds, and disabilities of community college students and staff.
