This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Provides direct supervision of a group of children throughout the day. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of campers and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience. The role of a Sports Counselor is to participate, build relationships and have fun while ensuring the physical and emotional safety of every child.
This position is ideal for individuals who are athletic and have coaching experience to work with children that are 4th – 7th grade. The sports include bowling, soccer, basketball, and individual trips of mini-golf, martial arts, laser tag, hiking and more. A curriculum will be provided to help guide you through warm-ups, drills, coaching tips, and tournament and league style matches for basketball and soccer.
Timeframe
June 23 – August 15, 2025 (no camp July 4)
8:00am-3:30pm OR 9:00am-5:30pm
Essential Functions
- Facilitate all activities for your group: morning drills and games, lunch, SEL, group time, divisional time, theme days, etc.
- Travel with group to various sporting venues in the morning and implement the curriculum.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children, and staff. Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Work with group of campers and provide a fun, safe and exciting camp experience.
- Cooperate with the Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director, Activity Leaders, and all fellow staff.
- Greet campers upon arrival.
- Additional help where needed when asked to by the Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director, and/or Activity Leaders.

Qualifications
- Entering first year of college, or equivalent.
- Prior experience working with children.
- Athletic background.
- Coaching experience.
- First Aid, CPR and AED certified or willing to be
