Job Summary:

This multifaceted job includes the ability to understand and implement Quality Science and Statistical Process Control into the manufacturing environment. This position is involved with pre and post product and process design work, in-house process verifications, and the entire PPAP and Quality documentation process.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support manufacturing operations for all quality activities and provide accurate and timely information, data, and reports as requested.
  • Provide presence on the production floor and develop positive relationships with manufacturing personnel. Attend all production meetings as scheduled.
  • Timely review and disposition of all non-conforming material.
  • Participate in PSO and capability runs to verify that new projects meet part design and quality requirements through review of capability run results.
  • Own customer and internal quality concerns from receipt to closure. Lead investigation to determine root cause using 8D or 5-Why problem-solving tools. Implement permanent corrective actions. Verify implementation and standardization across the plant.
  • Conduct weekly 8D review meetings and drive closure of Customer Concerns.
  • Work in conjunction with the Product Launch Engineers to maintain PFMEAs, Control Plans, Process Flows, and inspection check sheets to ensure customer-specific specifications and standards for products, application, and documentation are included after launch.
  • Own quality-related goals and drive improvement to key measures.
  • Participate in lean initiatives, including 6 Sigma, CIA’s, 5S, and standardized work. Suggest, document, and implement ideas to increase personal, departmental, and plant efficiency.
  • Anticipate problems and work to eliminate them before they happen.
  • Oversee the quality control of painted and finished products, ensuring compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.
  • Monitor and audit paint application processes, ensuring consistent quality in areas such as thickness, adhesion, color matching, and texture.
  • Perform root cause analysis for paint-related defects, including issues like orange peel, runs, overspray, and color inconsistencies, and implement corrective actions.
  • Work closely with the production team to optimize paint line processes, reducing waste and improving efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Develop and maintain control plans and inspection processes specific to painting operations, ensuring compliance with customer-specific requirements.
  • Ensure paint material handling and storage practices meet quality standards, including proper mixing, filtration, and application processes.
  • Lead paint-related quality audits and inspections, ensuring adherence to both internal and external quality standards.
  • Track and analyze paint-related quality data, identifying trends, areas for improvement, and providing reports to management.
  • Participate in the selection and testing of new paints or coatings, ensuring they meet durability, aesthetic, and performance specifications.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices for paint applications, including new technologies, environmental regulations, and customer-specific requirements.

  • Consistently adhere to, and support, company policies and procedures, including ISO, TS16949, and safety regulations.
  • Assist in maintaining P&C values (Integrity, People, Customers, Safety and Ownership) daily, through thoughts and actions.
  • Obtain and compile capability data from product line trials.
  • Determine testing requirements for Product Validation

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (or a related field)
  • Experience with an automotive supplier
  • Ability to establish and maintain good customer relations.
  • Exposure with the APQP process and associated quality documents.
  • Experience with blueprint reading, datum schemes, GD&T and DOE
  • Strong computer proficiency (including Windows, Outlook, Excel)
  • Experience with statistical software programs (such as Minitab)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

Salary : $65,000 - $80,000
