If yes, Lakemary is looking for an Assistant Director of Nursing. This position will provide assistance with oversight of full performance professional nursing work. The ADON works in the Children’s Residential program providing assistance with supervision of the nursing staff, development of procedures, ensure compliance with applicable statues and regulatory requirements, direct services to children, nursing assessments, and clinic support services.
Assistant Director of Nursing Responsibilities:
- Support and assist a program of total nursing services by assisting with oversight of nursing operations; including scheduling and supervision of the nursing team, PTO and vacation requests, timecard approval, performance feedback, scheduling and ensuring all nursing staff remain current on required training and serving as a bridge between various shifts. Ensure nursing coverage 24/7, including flexibility of your schedule to provide coverage which may include weekends, evening and overnight shifts.
- Provide department supervision in the absence of the Senior Director of Health Services. Taking on-call as applicable to program.
- Coordinate, delegate, oversee nursing tasks, as appropriate, including, but not limited to: assistance with coordination and communication with external physician’s appointments and with associated transportation staff. Communication with school nursing staff, food services, clinical team, and residential team regarding prescribed nutritional restrictions, necessary logs, and follow up.
- Assist with ordering medical supplies, and ensuring they are provided and implemented in relation to diet, medical ailments, etc.
- Oversee the children’s psychiatric clinic, including scheduling clinic days with Lakemary’s Psychiatric Provider and Senior Director of Health Services. This includes information and data gathering and preparation, information sharing, documentation, medication ordering, serving as a liaison with the pharmacy, therapists, etc.
- Receive, document, and follow-up with orders from internal and external medical providers. Then provide program areas with written documentation of medication changes and directives, as ordered
- Provide support for admissions and discharge of persons supported, including Admission nursing assessment, admissions medication orders, information sharing and education for all pertinent staff, schedule wellness and acute illness checks, etc. Assist with the development and implementation of nursing care plans for all axis III diagnosis
- Ensure all nursing staff complete the required training within scheduled time frames.
- Participate in onboarding and training nurses, med techs, and med trained staff as applicable. Assist with continued coaching of the nursing team and staff on each shift to ensure high quality care.
- Provides continued communication with Senior Director of Health Services in planning, preparing, and treatment of acute needs of persons served.
An ideal candidate for this position has:
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice.
- Knowledge of the internal working relationships of the facility staff.
- Knowledge of accrediting standards and regulations.
- Ability to administer a nursing care program.
- Ability to direct and coordinate the application of nursing care techniques to person’s supported situations.
- Ability to direct the application of nursing care techniques in a training program (i.e., medication administration).
- Ability to maintain a helpful and sympathetic attitude toward persons’ supported under trying conditions and to maintain harmonious working relationships with professional, paraprofessional, and non-professional employees.
- Ability to follow general instructions and procedures and to prepare and maintain required reports.
- Each individual working shall be qualified by temperament, emotional maturity, judgment, and understanding of residents necessary to maintain the health, comfort, safety, and welfare of individuals in psychiatric residential facilities. [KDHE PRTF Regulations 28-4-1207(a)]
Assistant Director of Nursing Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program and either currently licensed or license eligible as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas
- 3 years of supervisory experience preferred
- Preferred experience working with: children or adolescents with intellectual or developmental disabilities, psychiatric disorders, inpatient or residential setting.
- Be at least 18 years of age

- Schedule: Monday – Friday Day shift with a strong need for flexibility to work evenings and occasionally weekends
- Salary: $85,000
