PRIMARY PURPOSE: Provide assessment, individual, family and group therapy, and crisis intervention to patients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general supervision of the Director of SUD Services, and within the agency’s and program’s policies and procedures, the Therapist performs the following:

  • Develops and maintains effective therapeutic relationships with a diverse caseload of patients. Develops and implements individual service plans for each patient.
  • Conducts assessments in accordance with DSM-V diagnoses, including evaluation for suicidality, assessing for safety/violence potential, and identification of various symptoms related to mental disorders, as needed.
  • Provides crisis response/resolution to patients, family, and community for patients being seen, and provides referral to Emergency Services, as needed.
  • Provides person centered individual, group, and family therapy as indicated based on current evidence-based practice for co-occurring treatment including harm reduction and stage dependent treatment.
  • Completes all required documentation in a timely fashion, specifically, regularly practices collaborative documentation and at a maximum completes all notes by 10 AM the next business day and completes intakes within 72 hours of provision of service.
  • Collaborates with outside agencies for effective care collaboration and to advocate for patients as needed and provides education and advocacy to family and community members as needed.
  • Participates on agency committees.
  • Understands the mission of Lakes Region Mental Health Center.
  • Performs others duties as assigned.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED: The individual must possess the knowledge, skills and ability noted below or be able to explain and demonstrate how they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities. The individual must also possess the necessary physical capacities, with or without the aid of mechanical devices or other forms of accommodation, to safely perform the primary functions of the job. Working knowledge of diagnosis, treatment planning, medications, counseling and crisis intervention techniques.

    • Ability to organize workload so that clinical and administrative duties are completed in a timely and thorough manner without the need for direct supervision.
    • Ability to follow through on responsibilities to the satisfaction of supervisor or other contact person(s).
    • Makes effort to learn and understand the program’s operation and philosophy and apply this knowledge productively both within and outside of the team setting.
    • Represents the team/program/patients/agency positively in interactions within and outside of the agency.
    • Is able to establish a rapport and build working relationships with patients. Treats patients with dignity and respect and takes a patient centered approach to services, as noted through supervision, team participation, and feedback from staff and patients.
    • Ability to use computers, word processing equipment, and EMR.
    • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word and to receive detailed information through oral communication. Primary functions include activities in which verbal communication with patients and with others is key to job effectiveness.
    • Visual acuity must meet a minimum standard to work with preparing, reading, and analyzing data and reports, work with a computer terminal, etc.
    • Is able to tolerate periods of heavy workload and excessive stress.
    • Is able to sustain light physical effort such as frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, or reaching and/or occasional lifting of items 20 lbs. or more.
TRAVEL: Some travel required to fulfill job responsibilities between two LRMHC offices.

SALARY: This position pays $57,000 for an unlicensed therapist and $63,000 for a State of NH licensed therapist.

Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree or higher in mental health counseling, social work, psychology, counseling or another related field as specified in He-M426-11 and He-M426-13 is required. Experience: One to five years’ experience in mental health, crisis intervention or medical setting or related position, offering direct mental health services preferred. Licensure/Certification: LCMHC, LICSW. MLADC required. License eligibility in NH as an LCMHC, LICSW, or MLADC preferred. Valid NH driver’s license, proof of adequate automobile liability insurance and reliable transportation is required.

HOURS: Full time, 40 hours per week, schedule varies

This is a grant funded position. The grant will run for five years and is contingent upon continued grant/restricted funding. The Agency will support you becoming a Master Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and provide monetary support in that endeavor.
