General Description:
The Controller plays a central role in the development, maintenance, direction and oversight of Lakes Regional finance and accounting activities. Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller works independently and collaboratively with staff, including the budget and reporting manager, and other staff from the Fiscal Department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: maintaining the general ledger(s), monitoring and supervising the accurate posting of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and preparation of grant and contract billing and reporting. The Controller position requires excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, communication, organizational, and computer skills, as well as the ability to exercise professional discretion and discernment, independent judgment, and business judgement. The Controller position requires a proven track record of trustworthiness, accountability, and exceptional ethics.
Work Duties:
- Insures timely and accurate periodic financial reporting.
- Manages effective internal control system that detects problems early, and implements effective corrective action.
- Coordinates annual audit and single audit arrangements. Ensures compliance with state and federal government regulatory standards.
- Oversees accurate transaction posting of all payroll, accounts payable and receivable transactions, billings, cash receipts and related accruals
- Ensures daily cash reporting
- Ensure preparation of bank account reconciliations and general ledger account analyses and reconciliations.
- In cooperation with the Budget and reporting manager, prepares monthly budget to actual reports for periodic review and consultation.
- Supervision, training and development of accounting staff.
- Ensure accurate management of grant, project and tax reporting matters.
- Ensure timely grant and government filings and reports.
- Provides financial input to the organization's strategic planning process.
- Prepared to offer detailed financial data analysis and reporting.
- Collaborates as needed with Human Resources, and the Budget and Reporting manager during the preparation of various regulatory cost reports, invoices, and budgets.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- A bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in accounting
- At least five (5) years of experience working as an Accounting Manager or as an Assistant Controller.
- Related work experience can be used in lieu of degree. Knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
- Computer literate with high degree of skills in Excel and Microsoft applications.
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in accounting. Related professional experience may substitute in lieu of a bachelor degree.
- Intermediate skill level with Excel and Microsoft applications.
- Experience in a governmental or non-profit accounting environment.
- Experience administering financial aspects of governmental grants and contracts
- Experience with automated fund-based accounting systems, i.e. Financial Edge and with integrated financial systems for Payroll, Billing and Reimbursement, Accounts Payable.
- Experience with Medical and/or Mental Health finance and accounting management.
- Demonstrated financial analytical skill.
Salary: $70,000-$75,000 DOQ
