Special Education Paraprofessional- CI
Location: Lakeshore High School, Stevensville, MI 49127
Hours: 29 per week
Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent preferred
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Advanced training in a field related to child care and/or a minimum of two years of experience as an aide or equivalent experience
- Competent in the following areas: communication skills, organization, and in establishing excellent interpersonal relationships with staff and students
Duties:
- Demonstrate understanding, patience, compassion, and positive feedback toward students with special needs
- Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills introduced by certified staff
- Assist students in organizing tasks, assignments, his/her agenda, homework
- Ensure students are safely navigating around the building
- Facilitate developing and maintaining friendships
- Alert certified staff to any problem or special information about an individual student
- Effectively communicate the strengths and needs of students to staff and parents
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, students, and parents
- Manage and instruct students on appropriate behavior using positive behavior support strategies consistent with Board of Education policy and procedures
- Assist students in meeting goals; self-help, communication, health and behavior needs, including personal care needs
- Assist teachers in preparing materials, housekeeping, record keeping and data collection relative to student progress
- Use and apply technology when working with students
- Understand and be aware of medical needs of students and following medical protocol under the district policies
- Follow established policies/procedures (e.g. medical concerns, safety, student rights, emergency/disaster plan and so forth)
- Maintain strict confidentiality with student and student’s family information
- Regular and predictable attendance
- All other duties as assigned
