Job Title: Gate Ambassador
Department: Guest Services
Reports To: Gate Supervisor and Director of Guest Services
Salary: Seasonal Hourly (Non-Exempt)
Wage: $14.50 (new) / $15.00 (returning)
Position Summary:
As the “Face of Lakeside” the Gate Ambassador is devoted to customer service and enjoys working with people. As the first person a guest encounters, Ambassadors must possess an attitude that is consistently confident, upbeat, positive, and action oriented.
Applicants must be available to work from mid-May through early September. Applicants are expected to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. A minimum of 24 hours per week is required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Uphold the Mission Statement of Lakeside Chautauqua: to enrich the quality of life for all people, to foster traditional Christian values and to nurture relationships through opportunities for renewal and growth…spiritual, intellectual, cultural, and physical…while preserving Lakeside’s heritage. Employees must always represent its goals and values while on Lakeside grounds.

- Possess general computer knowledge to navigate box office software (ShoWare) and generate Daily/Weekly Passes for guests. Specific training will be provided.
- Complete cash and credit card transactions with each guest, when necessary.
- Count and deliver all cash and credit card receipts at the close of every shift.
- Scan every Chautauqua Pass upon entry and exit.
- Verify every vehicle displays the proper Lakeside Parking Pass upon entry.
- Be aware of all events and programs by checking the daily log at the start of every shift.
- Gather general information from guests (i.e., what brought them here, what activities they enjoy doing, etc.) and offer suggestions.
- Possess general knowledge of the grounds via Lakeside Map and identify important buildings and parking areas.
- Restock printed materials throughout shift, as needed.
- Maintain open communication with Shuttle Drivers via handheld radio to provide immediate transportation to guests.
- Provide miscellaneous services including directing lines of cars and cleaning areas on and around the Gate booths (especially after inclement weather). Equipment will be provided in these scenarios.

Education and Experience:
High school graduate with the ability to work with the public and other employees.
Language Skills:
Ability to speak clearly and effectively with guests and co-workers. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply critical thinking skills to solve sudden interpersonal problems and respond to situations where there are limited technical resources. Therefore, the ability to understand and adhere to instructions given in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form is also required.
Physical Demands:
While performing this job, the employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time; walk; use hand to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, climb or balance. Must have adequate vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. May be required to use machinery and equipment, such as golf cart or shuttle.
