What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Athletics - Middle School position at Lakeside School?
- Commit to providing support, messaging, actions, and opportunities to a diverse student-athlete population, their families, and coaches who come to school with different and evolving lived experiences.
- Manage the sign-up process for each Middle School sports season.
- Serve as liaison to the organizations with which the middle school program is involved, such as the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), Seattle Metropolitan Youth Lacrosse Association (SMYLA), and Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association (WSLA).
- Serve as the primary in-building contact for all constituents on issues related to Middle School athletics.
- Serve on hiring committees and interview Middle School coaching candidates.
- Provide written evaluations of Middle School coaches.
- On occasion, attend Lakeside Upper School athletics events off-campus, serving as the supervisor on duty and helping to ensure a consistent and dependable administrative presence.
- Provide support to the Associate Director of Athletics for significant events (playoffs and tailgates, for example).
- At the Middle School, provide event oversight for hosted competitions, including facilities preparation, scheduling of officials, coordination of the event management team, and communication with opponents.
- Create coverage plans for home Middle School events including recruiting staff.
- Work and communicate regularly with the Middle School assistant director when there are concerns about student behavior or other matters related to the overall Middle School program.
- Attend seasonal coaches meetings to provide information to Middle School coaches.
- Support multi-sport participation for student-athletes.
- Promote balanced achievement in all areas of school life for student-athletes.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director and Associate Director of Athletics.
- Demonstrated technological proficiency (PC/Windows platform, Microsoft Office, Adobe suite and athletics-specific databases).
- Enthusiasm for the role of education-based athletics.
- Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. Candidates will understand different perspectives, interact respectfully with cultures other than their own, and cultivate meaningful relationships with people who have different cultural frameworks.
- Vision and creativity for athletics in the independent school environment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently on long-term projects.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills needed for messaging to students, employees, and parents/guardians.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Satisfactorily complete three criminal background checks.
- A valid Washington State driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience managing and leading some part of a middle or secondary-school athletics program or community-based athletics program.
- If not already certified, the person hired must obtain First Aid and CPR certifications immediately.
- While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms and carry office related supplies and equipment.
- Walk from Upper School to Middle School campus (about 3 long blocks away).
- Move around on multiple surfaces including sports fields and courts, sometimes for extended periods of time.
- Lift up to 25 pounds overhead.
- Lift and set up furniture (chairs/tables) and sports equipment.
- Standing/sitting for long period of time during event days which exceed eight hours.

Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle is currently recruiting for an Assistant Director of Athletics for the Middle School. Reporting to the Director and Associate Director of Athletics, this person is part of an interscholastic athletics program that includes 26 varsity teams, most of which have both sub-varsity and middle-school counterparts. The Assistant Director is directly responsible for supporting the activities of all individual sports programs at the Middle School. This is a 1.0 FTE, overtime exempt position.
