Overview
Compliance Counsel is responsible and accountable for supporting the Compliance department as part of the Compliance Management System and meeting the objectives of the Compliance department as well as providing support to the business units. Compliance Counsel should understand regulatory/compliance requirements related to origination and/or mortgage servicing. Compliance Counsel will consult with various management heads and Legal resources for interpretations related to requirements affecting current business functions. Additionally, Compliance Counsel will regularly provide support to business managers to assist with the ongoing impact of compliance-related requirements in relation to the operational processes that ensure compliance. Compliance Counsel will also communicate with Compliance Management to ensure that Lakeview’s interpretations of compliance-related requirements, regulatory alerts, and implementation plans are documented, affected policies and procedures are updated and tracked, and any remediation required occurs and is documented. Further, provide analysis and recommendations to management of risks and potential liability associated with compliance matters.
The scope of the role will include working closely with other departments on business initiatives and support of overall compliance risk. This person may also provide materials to be disseminated to the Compliance Committee for executive-level review.
This is a fully remote position, offering you the flexibility to work from anywhere. Responsibilities
- Research and interpret new mortgage legislation, investor guidelines, and agency requirements (CFPB, GSEs, State, etc.).
- Lead and/or participate in communicating applicable regulatory requirements to affected business units.
- Responsible for the orderly, timely, and legal conclusion of business matters undertaken by the company within the scope of such attorney’s areas of responsibility.
- Responsible for performing legal research and providing responses to compliance-based questions for Origination or Servicing Practices.
- Review and comment on marketing materials, customer-facing notices, and mortgage origination & servicing-related disclosures.
- Coordinate and assist with the preparation of audit responses with Audit Facilitation or outside counsel.
- Assist other team members of the Compliance department as needed.
- Special projects as assigned by the Chief Compliance Officer or other Executives.
- Support in communicating deficiencies to the affected business units and management on an as-needed basis.
- Making recommendations for effective resolution of issues and findings
- Identify risk areas and trends to the Compliance team.
- Other duties as assigned by the CCO, SVP of Compliance, or CEO/President of Lakeview
- Minimum of 5-10 years of mortgage lending experience
- Juris Doctor
- Attend additional webinars, conferences, or higher education as required by the CCO.
- Must have a high level of interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to handle complex legal matters.
- Must have solid organizational skills and can work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced corporate environment.
- Knowledge and experience related to traditional federal and state consumer financial laws and regulations governing loan origination and/or servicing, including but not limited to, ECOA, FCRA, TILA, RESPA, FDCPA, the Dodd-Frank Act, HUD rules, GSE guidelines, TCPA, MAP Rules, AML/BSA
- Is attentive to detail and thorough.

- The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $125K-165K. Actual base salary will be dependent on the individual’s education, experience, skills, and qualifications, as well as internal equity. This role is eligible for participation in an annual discretionary bonus program.
