Assistant Brewer

Overview
Lakeville/Inver Grove Brewing Company is hiring for a full-time Assistant Brewer. We operate a 10bbl brewhouse at our Lakeville, MN location and a 20bbl brewhouse at our Inver Grove Heights, MN location. This position will include splitting time between both locations. We are seeking someone who possesses a positive attitude and work ethic, shows initiative and effective communication skills, and enjoys being part of a small team dedicated to crafting quality beverages in a fun family-friendly environment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 2 years professional brewhouse experience required; formal brewing certification or degree preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent time management skills, including prioritizing tasks effectively
• Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean work environment
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
• Boiler experience preferred, with mechanical and electrical aptitudes encouraged but not required
• Availability Monday-Friday, generally 9am-5pm, with start times as early as 7am and end times as late as 7pm. Very few weekend days annually
• Valid drivers license and clean driving record

REQUIREMENTS

• Must have the ability to lift up to 55 pounds and move 165 pounds regularly
• Must have the ability to regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel and crouch
• Must have the ability to work in loud, wet, cold, and/or hot environments often near moving parts and machinery
• Willingness to work safely with cleaning chemicals, following all environmental and safety precautions
• Upon hire, employee will obtain and maintain a Special Engineers license for boiler operation from the MN Department of Labor and Industry. The company will provide license fees and education as required to obtain the license

DUTIES and EXPECTATIONS

• This position reports directly to the Head Brewer
• Assisting the Head Brewer in brewing operations, including mashing, boiling, fermenting, and conditioning
• Monitoring the fermentation process and making adjustments to temperature and other settings as required
• Regularly cleaning and sanitizing all brewing equipment and the brewing area to maintain a sanitary environment
• Testing samples of products for QC/QA purposes, including sensory evaluation, throughout the process
• Handling raw ingredients, including lifting heavy sacks of grain and hops
• Handling spent grains and moving them to the loading dock for pickup by local farmers
• Assisting with the packaging process, which is primarily kegs, but can include bottling and canning (crowlers)
• Monitoring and communicating accurate beer inventory levels
• Monitoring and communicating accurate raw ingredients inventory levels
• Conducting regular maintenance checks on brewing equipment
• Maintaining accurate records of all brewing activities for future reference
• Maintaining standard operating procedures (SOP) documentation
• Participating in brewery tours and representing the brewery at events
• Be safety minded at all times. STOP. THINK. ACT.
• Coordinate with the Brew Team on vacation and time-off to assure business continuity in their absence

COMPENSATION and BENEFITS

• Annual pay commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range $32-$41,000 DOE
• 3 weeks (15 days) of paid vacation annually
