Mission for Position

To provide accurate, timely, and reliable laboratory results that assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and overall care of our patients. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist at Lakewood Health System, you will be a vital part of the healthcare team, ensuring the highest standards of laboratory testing while upholding a commitment to patient safety and quality. By maintaining expertise in diverse areas of laboratory medicine, troubleshooting instrumentation, and continuously improving processes, you will contribute to Lakewood’s mission of delivering exceptional, patient-centered healthcare. Your dedication to precision and excellence will support clinicians in making informed medical decisions, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes and the well-being of our communities.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Will exhibit problem solving skills of a complex nature, participate in Quality Assurance, Quality Control Monitoring, instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting, specimen processing, phlebotomy, along with customer service.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new procedures, products and equipment used in laboratory medicine to act as a resource and provide clinical expertise.
• Performs preventive maintenance in assigned areas to keep equipment in optimal working order.
• MLS: Will perform and report tests of all complexity levels, as defined by CLIA, on patients of all ages to assist with the routine screening, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases and injuries.
• Maintain generalist skills in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, serology, microbiology, and blood banking.

Position Type

• This is a full-time position.
• Flexible scheduling with opportunity to work 12-hour shifts if desired, rotating shifts, and every 4­^th to 5^th weekend 12 hour overnights.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• Must hold bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science.
• MLS: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certification, is required within one year from the date of hire.

• Demonstrates strong communication skills when working directly with providers, leadership, coworkers, and assistants regarding patient or testing concerns.
• As a part of a team-oriented laboratory crew who prioritize coworkers as well as patients, the MLS will assume the best in others and collaboratively problem solve as a valued member of the team.
• Utilizes AIDET model of customer service to calmly and pleasantly interact with patients and families. 
• Strong background of Blood Bank Preferred.
