TITLE: International Baccalaureate Primary/Middle Years Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Site Administrator

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:  The International Baccalaureate Primary and Middle Years Coordinator (PYP/MYP) is responsible for planning and overseeing the implementation and management of the program. This role involves coordinating with teachers, administrators, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) regional office to ensure the full delivery of the curriculum, including documentation, reporting, analysis, and evaluation.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES: (Essential Functions)

  • Oversee the implementation and development of the PYP curriculum in alignment with the school's mission statement.
  • Ensure that all International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) databases related to the school are up to date and that deadlines and procedures from IBO are met.
  • Serve as a member of the school's Leadership Team, contributing to the development of the strategic plan and leading the accreditation and review processes.
  • Initiate professional training programs to enable teaching staff to effectively introduce and develop the IB programs in their classrooms. This includes professional learning communities, interdisciplinary unit development, and current pedagogy and assessment practices.
  • Provide instructional leadership to individual teachers through mentoring, peer support, goal evaluations, and team-teaching opportunities.
  • Collaborate with PYP, MYP, and Diploma Programme (DP) coordinators within the district and community to ensure a successful IB program continuum.
  • Facilitate budgetary requests for training and curricular materials to the Principal.
  • Review and revise policies in collaboration with stakeholders to align with the values of Littleton Elementary School District and the IB. These policies include language, assessment, inclusion, and academic honesty.
  • Develop transdisciplinary units, POI revisions, scope and sequence documentation, assessment documentation, Exhibition guidelines, and the integration of Approached To Learning to meet PYP/MYP requirements.
  • Attend parent, grade level, and program meetings, host informational sessions, and visit partnering schools and businesses.
  • Assist in scheduling processes and timetabling.
  • Implement and apply educational technology software and hardware, including student resources, asynchronous learning platforms, laptops, and production-focused software.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders (students, parents, teachers, administrators, district personnel) regarding IB procedures, requirements, policies, events, opportunities, and current program progress through meetings, letters, blogging, and additional publications.
  • Lead and assist in the IB accreditation and review processes, providing leadership and guidance during planning and development for site visits.
  • Facilitate presentations, productions, events, and activities that showcase student learning and achievement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution with students and adults.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for presenting information to staff.
  • Proficiency in using computer software to prepare reports and documents related to curriculum.
  • Training and staff development skills, with the ability to train adult learners.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and generate reports.
  • Capability to perceive, plan, implement, and continuously improve the instructional program.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Mentoring and training methods.
  • Knowledge of Arizona State Law and District policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of human growth and development.
  • Effective classroom management strategies and discipline methods.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Positions in this class typically require: use of hands, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting a portion of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Valid Arizona certification and a minimum of five years of successful experience as a classroom teacher.

Proficiency in the essential elements of instruction.

Knowledge and experience in leadership and staff development skills.

Expertise in the integration of curriculum and instruction.

Experience and training in the Primary Years Programme and/or Middle Years Programme preferred.

Previous training/experience as an International Baccalaureate Primary or Middle Years Coordinator preferred.

Alternatives to the above qualifications as deemed appropriate and acceptable by the Board.

 

REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Arizona Teacher Certification; Valid AZ Fingerprint Card; MA Degree in the Field of Education preferred

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten months per year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Telecommute eligibility established by the Governing Board in accordance with Policies GCC & GDD.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
