Job Details
Searching for a family or adult-gerontology nurse practitioner licensed to work in Ohio with at least one year of working NP experience in primary care to provide on-site services on a full-time basis to the male population at this correctional facility. Schedule is weekdays only (no evenings, weekends, or holidays) and shift start/end times have some flexibility based on needs of facility. An on-site interview will be required. The assignment is projected to last approximately 3 months.
The following credentialing documents must be submitted: a comprehensive resume that includes education (with location and year of graduation), training, and complete work history; and Ohio license; healthcare-professional level BLS/CPR certification. A Drug Enforcement Administration certification should also be submitted, if available, as it will be required for the assignment. If an offer is extended, drug and TB test documents will need to be supplied by vendor for review by hiring manager at least 48 hours prior to start, or the start date may be postponed.
Nurse Practitioner Duties
- Monitors progress of and intervenes in the course of chronic illnesses, using ODRC policies and protocols for guidance
- Inoculates or vaccinates against communicable diseases & prescribes medications or administers treatment of acute and chronically ill patients & performs minor surgery as training & competency allows
- Performs routine physical exams of patients to determine control or status of chronic conditions & diagnoses new conditions
- Evaluates patients for the necessity of specialty referral consultations inside or outside the institution & reviews said consult reports for the recommendations, approving or disapproving accordingly
- Orders & reviews the results of laboratory, x-ray, & other diagnostic testing as appropriate
- With the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), facilitates the completion of medical reclassification & requests for non-formulary medications as necessary
- Performs routine & emergency medical care of patients as scheduled
- Examines, diagnoses & treats patients within scope of practice, as identified by the State of Ohio Nursing Board, as applicable
- Conducts rounds on infirmary patients as deemed appropriate by the CMO
- Writes up medical information gathered during patient interviews according to ODRC Office of Correctional Healthcare guidelines, policies, protocols & related American Correctional Association standards currently in practice, documenting all assessments & diagnostic impressions, as well as any other treatment plans & follow-up parameters
- Cooperates with CMO medical quality oversight & accept suggestions, redirection, and guidance
