JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: Work under the immediate guidance and direction of a registered nurse to maintain routine clinic records, provide minor first aid care, and conduct health screenings.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Cooperatively perform tasks under the supervision and delegation of authorized personnel.
- Administer first aid to students for minor injuries as needed.
- Assist with the assessment of illnesses, diseases, injuries, and certain health screenings of students under the direction of professional staff.
- Assist in the maintenance of medical records and daily logs of clinic visits.
- Work under established policies and procedures.
- Collect, prepare and/or perform tests as needed.
- Attendance at work is an essential function.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Monitor and supervise students in the clinic
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
- One year of experience in a health related position preferred
- Experience working with school aged children preferred
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Current CPR certification
- Certification as a nurse aide, medical assistant or EMT preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Proficient in keyboarding and file maintenance skills
- Ability to follow directives and to perform tasks necessary to always ensure the safety of students
- Ability to communicate positively with students, both verbally and nonverbally
OTHER INFORMATION:
Equipment Used: Standard medical clinic equipment including but not limited to automated external defibrillator (AED); standard office equipment. Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Communicating (verbal and written), understanding verbal instructions, reasoning skills, reading, instructing, emotional control. Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds), occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) and positioning students with physical disabilities, assisting non-ambulatory students, lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment, pushing, pulling, reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking, standing, repeated bending, specific visual requirements (activity sufficient for reading/writing), specific hearing requirements (activity sufficient to monitor children's safety),Inside and outside (classroom; community and recreational sites, including swimming; exposure to sun, heat, cold and inclement weather), microwaves, works with hands in water, exposure to noise, exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases), works with frequent interruptions, ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
