Curriculum Content Specialist (Elementary Science)



JOB DESCRIPTION:


Primary Purpose: Provide curriculum leadership, professional development and support for campus instructional coaches and teachers to ensure an aligned and articulated instructional program that results in the improvement of student learning outcomes.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Instructional Management
  • Model instructional coaching for campus coaches and assist campus coaches with implementation of instructional coaching techniques.
  • Model instructional practices in a variety of settings and provide follow-up support to ensure effective teacher implementation.
  • Model data collection and review processes with campus coaches to build their capacity to lead teachers
  • Guide instructional coaches and collaborate with curriculum staff to ensure the integration of the district’s curriculum and instructional objectives at the campus level.
  • Assist with aligning of the written and tested curriculum by writing and modeling assessments as exemplars
  • Work with Curriculum Coordinator to create and update district curriculum documents.
School and District Leadership:
  • Model attitudes, behaviors, and actions that are aligned to the district and campus vision.
  • Develop positive working relationships with district and campus staff, honoring confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Utilize interpersonal skills to communicate with stakeholders accurately and professionally.
  • Communicate regularly and collaboratively with other instructional specialists in the district.
  • Work with Curriculum Coordinator to plan and facilitate regular collaborative teacher leader/ department chair meetings.
  • Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in area assigned.
Learning Facilitator:
  • Mentor new coaches and provide onboarding to ensure they’re equipped to support teachers and students on campuses.
  • Create and deliver professional development for instructional coaches to empower their practice and amplify their ability to successfully respond to campus needs.
  • Confer with staff regarding professional growth and work with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.
  • Participate in campus visits with coaches to help them implement the feedback with their own coaching cycles as a way to perfect their practices.
  • Collaborate with district and campus staff to support peer observations, peer coaching, study and inquiry groups and other ways teachers can initiate learning and collaboration among themselves in the Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
  • Assist in developing the capacity of PLC to function effectively to improve student learning.
  • Support teachers in transferring and synthesizing alternatives or refinements to current practices.
  • Support the continuous professional growth and improvement of teacher instructional skills through coaching and collaborative problem solving.
  • Assist with the implementation of district and state programs related to the content area (e.g. Reading Academies in Elementary ELAR).

EXPERIENCE:


Minimum Experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of successful classroom experience
  • Leadership experience (such as campus lead teacher, team leader, department chair, curriculum writer, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:


Minimum Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Hold a valid Texas certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Expertise in core content area required (i.e., Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science or Social Studies)
  • Understands the importance of reading and writing in every subject area
  • Successful use of instructional strategies and research-based best practices with diverse student populations
  • Experience in using data to guide campus support and professional development
  • Evidence of skills in planning, organization, and collaboration
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Effective interpersonal skills (such as building rapport, actively listening, and giving/receiving feedback)
  • Expertise in the use of the technology for instruction and data analysis
  • Experience in working with adult learners and delivering professional development

Working Conditions
Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Ability to concentrate (detailed work), communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; reason, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, memorize, read, coordinate district functions, compile, compute, instruct, and maintain emotional control under stress.
Frequent districtwide and occasional statewide and national travel, prolonged and irregular hours.
