Parent Educator
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: To provide parental assistance to increase parental involvement and promote students’ academic achievement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Serve as a liaison between school, home and community.
- Assess students’ knowledge of personal academic needs.
- Assist students in developing personal goals.
- Provide staff development on assessing student needs.
- Work collaboratively with staff to remove barriers to academic achievement.
- Maintain a parenting resource center.
- Provide research-based information on child development and parenting skills to parents.
- Lead parent group meetings.
- Conduct home visits.
- Attend district networking meetings.
- Participate in state and local networking and collaboration.
- Maintain a schedule which includes daytime and some evening responsibilities.
- Coordinate with Lamar CISD campuses, departments and outside agencies.
- Attendance at work is an essential function.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.
EXPERIENCE:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Bachelor's degree in social work, education, social services, or psychology preferred
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Bilingual preferred
- Ability to self-direct

Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds), pushing, reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking (intermittent), standing (intermittent), kneeling (intermittent), repeated bending (intermittent), specific visual requirements (normal vision capability in order to teach parents to care for children, ability to distinguish basic colors), specific hearing requirements (normal hearing capability in order to teach parents to care for children). Outside and inside, unusual fatigue factors (in and out-of-district travel), protracted or irregular hours of work (flexibility needed).
