Duties And Responsibilities
- Provides accurate and effective interpretation of lectures, discussions, presentations, and tutoring sessions in real-time for deaf and hard of hearing students
- Interprets for students during classroom sessions, meetings, events, and other academic activities
- Collaborates with faculty and staff to ensure materials are accessible and appropriately formatted for deaf and hard of hearing students
- Maintains confidentiality and professionalism in all interpreting situations
- Offer exceptional customer service in a student-centered, professional environment at all times
- Upholds and agrees to comply with all federal, state, and local requirements pertaining to the security, confidentiality, and privacy of information maintained by institution, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Evenings and weekends as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in American Sign Language and knowledge of Deaf culture
- Commitment to providing inclusive and equitable access to education
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in Deaf Education or similar discipline
- Certification from a recognized interpreting organization (e.g. RID, NIC, BEI)
- Experience working in an academic setting
