What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor, Medical Assisting position at Lamar Institute of Technology?
The Instructor for Medical Assisting’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing instruction for students enrolled in the Medical Assistant Program (along with other related courses and topics) in the Allied Health Department. This individual is also responsible for maintaining office hours; and teaching extended day classes, labs, and hybrid/online courses, as required, both on campus and at alternate locations. This individual helps coordinate and attend advisory committee meetings; attends workshops, seminars, and conferences to upgrade teaching skills; assists in the development of curriculum, as needed; and maintain program computer labs. All LIT faculty are responsible for recruitment and retention.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively engage students in the learning process
- Maintain ethical and professional behavior
- Maintain knowledge of and adherence to the policies and procedures contained in the TSUS and LIT Policies and Procedures Manual
- Participate in college service, which includes but is not limited to, committee work, advising and/or tutoring students, and recruiting
- Teach classes during the fall and spring semesters as required by the department (might include day, evening, weekend, and Early College High School/dual credit); including online courses
- Provide mentorship to dual credit partners/mentees
- Attend Teaching and Learning Center sessions to enhance teaching skills
- Stay abreast of national matters and trends in education
- Participate in assessment activities for the LIT Core Curriculum
- Assist in the development of curriculum as needed
- Perform other related duties, as required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in Medical Assisting, or related field
- Credentialed and in good standing in medical assisting through an NCCA, ANSI, or ISO accredited organization
- Medical and/or allied health training
- Recent demonstrated experience related to medical assisting
- Documented education in instructional methodology*
- Instructional methodology education may be demonstrated by documentation of completed workshops, in-service sessions, seminars, or completed college courses on topics including, but not limited to, learning theory, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodology, or assessment techniques.
- Experience teaching in higher education
- Bachelor’s degree
