What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor, Process Technology position at Lamar Institute of Technology?
The Instructor for Process Technology’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing instruction for students enrolled in Process Technology (along with other related courses and topics). This individual is also responsible for maintaining office hours; and teaching extended day classes, labs, and hybrid/online courses, as required, both on campus and at alternate locations. This individual helps coordinate and attend advisory committee meetings; attends workshops, seminars, and conferences to upgrade teaching skills; assists in the development of curriculum, as needed; and maintain program computer labs. All LIT faculty are responsible for recruitment and retention as a part of achieving the Institute’s Shared Vision of Growth and Excellence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively engage students in the learning process
- Maintain ethical and professional behavior
- Maintain knowledge of and adherence to the policies and procedures contained in the TSUS and LIT Policies and Procedures Manual
- Participate in college service, which includes but is not limited to, committee work, advising and/or tutoring students, and recruiting
- Teach classes during the fall and spring semesters as required by the department (might include day, evening, weekend, and Early College High School/dual credit); including online courses
- Provide mentorship to dual credit partners/mentees
- Attend Teaching and Learning Center sessions to enhance teaching skills
- Stay abreast of national matters and trends in education
- Participate in assessment activities for the LIT Core Curriculum
- Assist in the development of curriculum as needed
- Perform other related duties, as required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to: sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time during instruction and lab demonstrations. Ability to lift and carry instructional materials, tools and equipment occasionally. Ability to reach, bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch to set up lab demonstrations and to assist students with equipment. Ability to climb stairs and ladders occasionally in an industrial lab environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in process technology (possible extended industry experience may substitute)
- Demonstrated recent industry experience (within 5 years)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies
- Possess good verbal and written communication skills
- Possess good time management skills
- Experience teaching in higher education
- Doctorate degree in subject area
- Related field and/or industry certifications
