This is an executive administrative position in a leadership role reporting to the College President, responsible for the overall planning, operation, student learning, and assessment of the College's academic and student affairs departments. The Provost/Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs provides strategic leadership for the areas of curriculum, faculty development, distance learning, and career and workforce education as well as continuing education. This position is expected to work collaboratively on academic success initiatives with local independent school districts and area businesses. The individual will advance the pursuit of academic excellence and the quality of student life and activities. The Provost/Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs has primary responsibility for the leadership, management, strategic direction, policy development, and administrative oversight of enrollment management, as well as the programming, planning, and delivery of extracurricular services and associations for the student body. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provides executive leadership and supervision for academic and student affairs within the college.
- Supervises the development and successful completion of strategic and operational plans for academic and student affairs.
- Evaluates academic and student services staff, programs, services, and activities to ensure all areas within the college are efficient and effective in meeting processes, procedures, achieving goals and objectives, and providing quality student support systems and services.
- Remains abreast of statewide rules and regulations governing academic and student affairs for 2-year/community colleges.
- Regularly reviews, analyzes, and reports college-level data related to student success, enrollment, persistence, and graduation.
- Resolves daily operational and long-term issues involving student and academic grievances, student and academic policies, procedures, and support services.
- Provides leadership and direction for integrated programs of student engagement and student services that can lead to greater student satisfaction and success.
- Leads the development and implementation of data-informed strategies to improve college access; admissions and enrollment processes; and increase retention, progression, and graduation.
- Provides leadership to ensure institutional efficiency, effectiveness, and achievement of the College’s enrollment goals.
- Assists and collaborates with the President and the College’s senior level executive team in prioritizing initiatives in accordance with the College’s master plan, vision, and mission as well accrediting bodies.
- Coordinates the campus-wide academic planning process including the evaluation and development of processes, timelines, and procedures.
- Provides oversight for curriculum and program development, program review, and academic policies.
- Provides oversight for schedules of classes, catalogs, external reports, and College publications.
- Conducts, monitors and reviews faculty and staff evaluations, development, mentoring, disciplinary and discharge actions, and promotions.
- Works closely with Human Resources on academic and student services personnel and policy matters.
- Provides leadership for articulation and transfer agreements, class scheduling, catalog revisions, handbook revisions, etc.
- Maintains positive relationships with area high schools, regional councils, institutions of higher education, Texas Education Agency, Texas Workforce Commission, and the Texas Higher Education Coordination Board.
- Ensures that SACSCOC accreditation and standards are met, and the College remains in compliance.
- Serves on ad hoc committees as well as projects of the Texas State University System office.
- Monitors all external agency policies, rules, and standards impacting all areas of the Academic and Student Affairs Division and ensures College compliance.
- Develops, coordinates, and oversees budgets for a multitude of college departments.
- Explores best practices in higher education, grant opportunities, and provides recommendations of strategic initiatives to the President.
- Serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the College.
- Works collaboratively with all departments of the College to supports a student centric mission in a unified manner.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- This is a highly visible executive position requiring a strong presence at the College and in the community, both before and after normal hours, and occasionally on weekends.
- Serves on regional, statewide, and institutional committees.
- Participates in community service activities and organizations.
- Attends ceremonial and student activities including commencements.
- Attends TSUS Board Meetings and other required system functions and committees.
- Engages in professional development activities, gives presentations, and moderates panel discussions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTSPosition Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership in academic and student affairs within a 2-year/community college.
- Notable achievements and successes related to academic and student success within a 2-year/community college.
- Technologic proficiency in applications that include, but are not limited to Excel, word, PowerPoint/presentation, etc.
- Solid understanding of SACSCOC accreditation standards and how to demonstrate compliance.
EducationRequires a minimum of an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited college or university in an academic, leadership, management, or related field.Experience
- Five years’ experience teaching in a college-level setting is preferred.
Minimum qualifications include:
- Five years of senior leadership experience within an accredited institution of higher education. Preference will be given for service at the Vice President level.
- Commitment to student retention, success and academic excellence.
- Ability to manage multiple budgets and numerous people.
- A bold personality with strong interpersonal skills and experience engaging with people from various backgrounds and life experiences.
- Extensive knowledge, understanding, and ability to communicate the needs of the campus to students and other constituencies.
- Successful experience in developing new programs and initiatives to fulfill long-range plans.
- A strong understanding of admissions, advising/counseling, financial aid, academic regulations.
- A history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
