What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Assistant for the Physical Plant position at Lamar State College-Port Arthur?
The student assistant works under the supervision of the Physical Plant Office Manager. The student assistant duties will consist of general clerical duties such as: filing, answering phones, taking messages, and greeting visitors. Other duties will include; filling supply orders, assist with campus deliveries and pick-up, and assist with event set-ups.

Some tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form, and the ability to understand departmental rules and regulations. Ability to change quickly from one job assignment to another.
Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs., stand, stoop, bend, lift, see, walk, etc.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and maintain good working relationships with other employees and building occupants.
Must be honest, cooperative and reliable.
Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Must follow established college policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in office environment preferred. Must have excellent written and communication skills. Microsoft Excel and Word proficiency. Basic knowledge of business machines: PC, copier, scanner, fax, and shredder.
Salary $7.25 an hour Work Hours 19.5 hrs./week max.
