Summary
We are seeking an Assistant Manager to provide administrative support for our Farmyard and Attractions area while training and supervising adults with developmental disabilities. This role combines business management with hands-on oversight of our animal care operations and public-facing activities. The ideal candidate has experience in both animal care and business management, with a strong commitment to supporting the growth and success of our Participants.
The Role
- Supervise daily operations of the Farmyard and Attractions area, ensuring proper execution of animal care, customer service, and maintenance procedures
- Oversee administrative systems, including cash reports, inventory management, and record keeping
- Train and supervise animal care staff and volunteers, providing guidance on proper procedures and protocols
- Mentor team members with developmental disabilities, guiding them toward personal and professional goals
- Monitor safety compliance and animal welfare standards across all operations
- Coordinate scheduling and workflow to ensure adequate coverage for all areas
- Fill in for staff positions as needed to maintain operational coverage
- Evaluate and improve operational processes in collaboration with management
- Manage retail inventory and merchandising strategies
- Support manager with budget planning and cost control measures
- Assist with development and implementation of new programs and procedures
- Participate in required meetings, long-range planning, and special events as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent plus two years experience in animal care and business management
- Proven leadership experience in supervising staff or volunteers
- Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities is a plus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to outstanding customer service
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of animal behavior, health, and welfare best practices
- Proficiency in writing, speaking, and understanding English
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including accurate typing, navigating websites, entering and recalling data, using word processors and spreadsheet software, and managing emails
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, work outdoors in all weather, and stand or walk for extended periods
