What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian Shift Leader position at Lamoille North Supervisory Union?
Summary: Commercial cleaning background preferred but the district would be willing to train the right candidate. Responsibilities include the nightly oversight of custodial work on the Lamoille Union Campus along with the custodial work of its section as well as coordination of event set up and take down. Participates in job related trainings, instructions, and activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned)
1.Responsible for the daily custodial operations in assigned location in compliance with the district cleaning standards procedures.
a.Daily cleaning of assigned building section
b.Ensures the neat and clean appearance of the building at all times. Conducts periodic building walk-through with self and/or Principal/Facilities Director.
c.Restocks disposable supplies
d.Uses technology resources to review daily needs and to prepare necessary building and equipment setups.
e.Prepared facility for evening/night and weekend events
f.Reports all relevant problems associated with the building to the Principal and/or Facility Director.
g.Ensures that established protocols for annual building openings and closings are met.
2.Performs and over sees routine and preventative maintenance at assigned location
a.Operates and maintains the equipment, which includes but is not limited to tractor, auto scrubber, wet/dry vacuums, buffing machines, and carpet extractors.
b.Handles chemicals, cleaning solutions, and power equipment in accordance with product specifications and with all safety rules and regulations. Disposes of hazardous wastes according to district policies and established State and EPA standards.
3.Assists in building security and student safety by:
a.Ensuring building/fire codes are met
b.Expected to be on-call for any emergency situations.
c.Knowledgeable of all emergency shut offs (gas, electric and water.)
d.Maintain a safe campus by making sure that all windows and doors are secured at appropriate times and end of day.
4.Performs other duties as assigned by building principal or Facilities Director
Shift Leader Responsibilities: Manages assigned support staff in accordance with the Principal and Facility Director directives and the District's policies and applicable laws. Assigned responsibilities may include training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
Ensures that work is performed in a safe and responsible way at all times. Presents a neat, clean, and appropriately dressed manner. The ability to work in a collaborative team environment is essential to the employee's successful job performance.

Education and/or Experience: Must have a high school diploma or General Educational Development Diploma (GED). Previous experience with commercial cleaning methods.
License, certificate, and special requirements: Must possess a valid Vermont drivers license, may require the use of district or personal vehicle while conducting school business. The ability to pass a back ground, and finger print check. Ability to obtain or complete 2 hour asbestos awareness training, blood borne pathogens training, and VOSHA safety training.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine and complex reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the District.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective and respectful working relationships with students, staff, vendors and district communities. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and School Board policies. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Must be able to keep high levels of confidentiality in all aspects of job performance.

At times the employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines, and remove snow. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually very moderate to quiet.
Terms of Employment: 7.5 hours per Day/260 Days/Year
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated at least annually by the Principal/District Facilities Director in conjunction according to the stated performance objectives and the qualities and characteristics contained on the evaluation form.
