What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utilization Management Lead position at Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital?
Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital (LBHH) is a 126-bed, inpatient psychiatric hospital and start-up joint venture between Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine and Universal Health Services.
In addition to a general adult unit and dedicated adolescent unit, the facility offers services for treating those with co-occurring disorders on the psychiatric-medical unit, an intensive adult unit to care for those with severe conditions, as well as a women’s trauma unit.
The Utilization Management Lead is responsible for completing the following duties and tasks:
- Performs timely, daily clinical reviews with all payer types (Managed Medicare, Managed Medicaid and commercial) to secure authorization for continued treatment (i.e. by fax, telephone or on-line) based on payer’s criteria.
- Assures smooth and orderly processes are followed for responding to UM calls and all concurrent reviews are completed daily.
- Assures that Midas documentation is updated daily and appropriately. That all documentation has enough detail to ensure no issues with payment.
- Assists in managing the department flow, providing support for all UM staff, such as covering reviews when needed shifting workloads as needed to ensure all tasks are covered daily.
- Collaborative closely with all internal teams. Breaking barriers in communication to ensure there are no delays in discharge.
- Delegate tasks as needed to other team members. Shifting assignments throughout the day is needed to ensure all team members are given approximately the same number of assignments per day.
- Training new hires on all systems. Having new hires shadow so that there is hands on training.
- Monitor and report department performance measures and making recommendations for improvement. Participate in any meetings that the Director is unable to attend or has assigned.
- Perform audits to ensure Medicare regulations are being followed.
- Ensure that all denials are followed up weekly and documentation is detailed.
- Facilitates internal and external customer service standards.

What Does LBHH Require for this Role?
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in psych related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Experience: Five years of utilization review required.
