Job Summary

The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager will oversee the activity of the Steel Division quality assurance functions, developing, implementing, and maintaining a system of quality and reliability testing for the organization’s steel products and/or fabrication processes. This position has responsibility for quality assurance documents for the Steel Division.

Duties & Responsibilities

· Reviews and maintains all quality documents. Manages WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications) and welder certifications for all trades.

· Manages both shop and field fabrication certifications, including AISC and others.

· This position is responsible for overseeing AISC certifications for shop. Manages the creation, disbursement, and storage of Quality Records (Quality Manual, Codes, WPS, Welder certifications, shop procedures, shop related CARs, etc.).

· Trains shop staff on Quality Records.

· Schedules and coordinates both internal and external shop inspections, working closely with external parties and internal teams.

· Ensures that all requirements are met during Quality Control inspections.

· Maintains Library of Required References (see Reference Library under Structural Steel AISC)

· Reviews contract documents, including drawings and specifications, and ensures fabricated, cleaned, and primer painted product meets the job and code requirements.

· Assists in the training, and evaluation of employees including welding certification.

· Creates, maintain and train personnel on WPS (welding procedure specifications).

· Creates, maintain and train personnel on shop procedures.

· Conducts weekly shop training for employees as needed, with training sessions scheduled based on requirements

· Reviews and approves timecards for direct reports.

· Conducts performance reviews for direct reports

· Creates a Procedure Qualification Test Record (PQR) when a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is unavailable.

· Collaborates with Detail Department and fabrication teams to identify, address, and resolve design errors, fabrication conflicts, and discrepancies, ensuring effective solutions to maintain project quality.

· Attends field visits to check welds with inspectors as needed.

· Test all shop welding machine calibrations every six months, comparing them to established specifications and control limits

· Responsible for requesting necessary tools and equipment, providing recommendations for improvements, and ordering or purchasing items directly as needed.

· Other duties as assigned.

· Manages Quality Control Inspectors.

· Advanced ability to read Architectural, Structural, and Shop Drawings, as well as proposal and contract specifications.

· Must be able to follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.

· Maintains composure in high stress environment and resolves issues professionally.

· Works toward developing processes and procedures to meet AISC certification standards.

Knowledge

· Knowledge of applicable industry codes: AWS, AISC, CBC, SSPC, IBC.

· Exceptional knowledge of steel fabrication processes, and experience in quality control inspections.

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (Excel, Word, and Power Point).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
