Job Summary

The Early Education Coach is responsible for supporting the quality of care and education for children enrolled in the Lancaster First Steps Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership Programs. The primary goal of the early education coach is to ensure that the teaching staff acquires the understanding and skills needed to enhance instructional practices that improve child outcomes. The coach provides support to the center directors, education manager, and disability coordinator in data analysis, professional development, and guidance for teaching staff to improve their content knowledge and instructional strategies.

The education coach conducts site visits, conducts classroom observations, and serves as a resource for training, technical assistance, and support to each partnering sites for improved outcomes of classroom teachers and children., The coach advocates, facilitates, and supports the work of teaching staff but never performs supervisory or evaluative functions.

Essential Job Responsibilities – Performance Indicators

Major Duties/Functions/Responsibilities (80%)

  • Identifies teaching strengths and learning needs, barriers and challenges by analyzing child outcomes DATA, and organizing and implementing problem solving strategies with teachers
  • Complete site visits and classroom observations both formal and informal.
  • Engages in reflective practice and supports each teacher to examine and reflect on his /her classroom management, routines, lesson plans, and environment (indoors and outdoors) as well as provide consultative feedback directly to teachers.
  • Model and coach on high quality, responsive, developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate interactions with children fostering healthy consistent trusting relationships.
  • In collaboration with center directors, education manager, disabilities service coordinator and EHS-CCP Director, identify staff teaching and training needs and develop annual training plans for teaching staff, that are directly related to program performance goals
  • Provide support, information, and training around EHS education requirements, child development, and developmentally appropriate practices for partnering staff and families.
  • Work with childcare partners to ensure appropriate educational services and environments for children with disabilities.

Record keeping and Monitoring (5%)

  • Complete all assigned classroom monitoring
  • Document all monitoring and teacher assistance provided.
  • Summarize all activities in monthly reports
  • Maintain center-based education tracking systems

General Staff Responsibilities (15%)

  • Participate in staff meetings, targeted case management, attend conferences, training/workshops, and meet education standards as required.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with LCFS policies and procedures, EHS-CCP policies and procedures, and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Maintain congenial and respectful relations with staff, children, families, and community.
  • Keep current and accurate records.
  • Maintain confidentiality of staff and family information.
  • Maintain professional standards and professional courtesy policies.
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities and ongoing self-improvement.
  • Fulfill role as mandated reporter as stated in Lancaster First Steps Early Child Abuse and Neglect Policy.
  • Be present at work to provide consistency of services.
  • Be a contributory team member in a positive and productive manner.
  • Flexibility to accommodate changes in job responsibilities due to changing program demands as requested by your supervisor.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Lancaster County First Steps Early Head Start Child Care Partnership Program mission, values, and policies in the performance of daily job duties.
  • Commit and contribute to program quality improvement as it relates to the program-wide management systems
  • Commit to reflective supervision as a cornerstone of program and staff development.

Overall, responsibilities include other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in early childhood education, or other related field with experience developing consistent, stable, supportive relationships with infants, toddlers, and two's in group settings.
  • At least 2 years direct experience with children under age 3
  • Experience with Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  • Be well informed of state licensing regulations, NAEYC Standards, developmentally appropriate practices, child development, and best practices in group care for children under 3.
  • Knowledge of the Creative Curriculum for Infant, Toddlers and Twos (at least the 2nd Edition) along with Teaching Strategies Coaching to Fidelity, and Teaching Strategies GOLD Assessment tool.
  • Strong organizational, time management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to identify and address problems and concerns.
  • Computer literacy (related software, printer, copier, fax, and phone)
  • Awareness of cultural differences, learning styles, education level and community norms and how they may impact a teacher’s professional development and performance.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • At least one year supervising and training early childhood professionals and paraprofessionals.
  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Experience home visiting children
  • Experience working with children under 3 with special needs.

Other Requirements

  • Satisfactory references check and criminal and sex offender background check, including fingerprinting.
  • Satisfactory TB test or chest X-ray and a signed pre-employment physical dated not more than 12 months prior to employment (paid for by LCFS).
  • Occasional bending, stooping, and lifting to 25 lbs.
  • Regular sitting, working at computer keyboard and desk, and standing to file documents in filing cabinet.
  • Ability to meet transportation needs as required by the position.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $37,795.00 - $46,853.00 per year
