The Lancaster County Library is looking for an energetic, detail oriented, and highly motivated employee as a Children and Teen Librarian. This position oversees all functions of children and teen services including planning, organizing, and maintaining the children’s and teen’s library collection, developing and implementing a wide variety of children’s programs, and providing reference and readers’ advisory to children, teens and their caregivers. The position requires some night and weekend hours.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Qualifications: 1. Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college or university, with a specialization in children and young adult services preferred.2. Minimum of two years professional library experience, preferred.Requirements: 1. Significant public library children’s services and programming work experience.2. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library patrons and staff members.3. Ability to work independently and efficiently, without direct supervision.4. Broad knowledge of public library collection development with extensive knowledge of resources of particular interest to children, teens, and their caregivers, including software, online databases, Internet sites, and searching.5. Must have advanced computer skills. Manages the Branch’s social media accounts. Experience with Canva and similar software preferred.6. Excellent interpersonal skills and public service manner, especially with children, teenagers, and their caregivers. This includes the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.7. Ability to plan and present effective programs that appeal to children and teens, such as storytelling and book-talking, before small and large groups.8. Flexibility to work a varied schedule, may require evening and weekend hours.9. May be required to travel to conferences and trainings. Valid state issued Driver’s License required.10. Experience with teen programming in a public library setting preferred.
