Description
Under occasional supervision, performs various routine-to-moderately complex and specialized clerical activities related to the maintenance and processing of Sheriff's Office records and answers in-coming telephone calls. Performs related clerical and administrative tasks as required. Reports to the Records Supervisor, Support Services Division.
Examples of Duties
Answers the telephone; provides information and assistance to callers; routes calls to appropriate personnel and takes messages as necessary.
Performs NCIC entries and inquiries and prints / relays to appropriate staff person.
Monitors video consoles; monitors alarms; notifies appropriate personnel when response is required.
Receives and responds to public inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints; greets and assists agency visitors.
Enters / obtains data to / from the computer system including warrants, warning tickets, various records and reports, etc.
Performs other general clerical work as required, including copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, etc.
Operates an assortment of office equipment and machines including a copier, computer, printer, calculator, telephone, paper shredder and etc.
Maintains certifications and training as mandated by the Sheriff's Office.
Prepares and / or processes a variety of documents, including but not limited to warrants, NCIC book, shift activity reports, warning tickets, etc.
Refers to policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, other technical manuals, directories, maps, etc.
Operates various computers, NCIC computer, printers, telephones, video consoles, security monitors, copier, fax machine, paper shredder, two-way radio, etc.
Uses clerical and computer supplies.
Interacts and communicates with the immediate supervisor, other department supervisors and employees, co-workers, other County personnel, other law enforcement agencies, court personnel, technical service representatives, and the general public.
Typical Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by some college-level coursework in business, secretarial science or office management and a minimum of two years of responsible secretarial or administrative work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid S.C. driver's license.
