SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Route Technician performs tasks such as reading meters, recording data, troubleshooting, and turning on or off services. Performs other customer service duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reads and records meter readings. Rechecks readings as needed to ensure accuracy for billing purposes.
- Troubleshoots and repairs non-read accounts. Notifies Route Tech Supervisor if additional work order is needed.
- Detects meter defects through visual inspection and handheld device; reviews and verifies meter readings indicating unusually low or high consumption; re-checks meters as necessary.
- Performs minor cleaning, maintenance and repairs of water meters; removes old meters and installs replacement meters as needed.
- Installs meters for new customers.
- Installs and maintains MXU devices.
- Conducts field testing and calibrations on water meters.
- Disconnects services for non-payment and re-connects services as directed.
- Turns on, turns off, or transfers water services for customers; turns off services in emergencies as required.
- Receives and responds to customer inquiries, requests for assistance, and complaints.
- Assists in investigating water theft.
- Prepares and records daily work order updates. Reports meter defects and unusual conditions to the Route Tech Supervisor or Route Tech Lead as necessary.
- Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment.
- Operates a vehicle and equipment including a hand-held computer, tablet, hand, and power tools.
- Attends training, meetings, and workshops to enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Works in an environment as to follow all District safety programs.
- Maintains proper maintenance and cleanliness of all District equipment and vehicles as they pertain to the Route Department.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
A valid driver's license is required.
COMPENSATION
The employee shall be compensated on an hourly, 40-hour work week pay scale with overtime available. Employee will be paid bi-weekly (26 times per year).
Pay is based on skills, education, experience, etc.
