Position Description
The middle school assistant baseball coach is responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the baseball program at Lancaster Middle School. The assistant coach will also assist with conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of an Assistant Baseball Coach
- Assists the head baseball coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head baseball coach.
- Assesses player’s skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head baseball coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
- Assists with determining game strategy.
- Assists the head baseball coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition.
- Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
- Maintains the team equipment in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security.
- Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach.
- Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
- Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
- Effectively communicate with parents, as directed by the head baseball coach.
- Knows and understands the baseball league rule book and any changes that are made.
- Recognizes and uses each player’s specific talents to devise plays and playing strategies for games.
- Participates in fundraising events and activities when coaching.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Understand the fundamentals of the game of baseball.
- Be in good physical condition.
- Have the ability to motivate players to reach their potential.
- Must have exceptional leadership skills.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of coaching experience as an Assistant Coach, or a Head Coach is preferred.
- Looking for a coach who competed at the college level, club team level, professional level, or high school level.

Athletic Director and / or Administration
