Position: Head Start Classroom Teacher
Position Summary: The Head Start Classroom Teacher is responsible to plan, implement,
and organize daily experiences for children. The Classroom Teacher is to promote parent
involvement and maintain contact with families, and keep appropriate documentation
regarding the progress of children, contact with families, and classroom activities. The
Classroom Teacher will serve as a role model and mentor for the Classroom Assistant. The
Classroom Teacher is responsible to maintain a safe, clean, and healthy environment. The
Classroom Teacher shall function in a professional manner at all times and conduct activities to
ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and all applicable regulations.
Qualifications and Expectations:
- Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred. Associate Degree in Early
- Minimum of one year experience working in an early childhood program required.
- Must be knowledgeable of Head Start Performance Standards and actively participate in
the implementation and evaluation of program policies, activities and objectives to meet
program requirements.
- Must have a positive, enthusiastic and professional attitude.
- Must possess good organizational skills involving consistency, flexibility and structure.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, have an understanding
and awareness of the needs of low-income families, and be sensitive to individual
differences.
- Must have good physical and emotional stamina and the ability to lift / carry up to 50
- Must work with all staff and families in a professional manner. Must be able and willing
- Must demonstrate an appropriate professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
Beginning Salary: Pay range is $17.51 to $21.60 per hour, based on education level. Salary
is prorated for 12 months.
Work Schedule: 40 Hours per week / 40 weeks per year
