Daily work hour schedule determined upon hire.Onsite only.Must-Haves on the Resume : Experience working within a biotech or laboratory setting in a safety role.Experience or broad knowledge of EHS programs.Ability to take direction routinely.Education Requirements : Bachelor's preferred in a relevant field.Position Overview : Environmental Health & Safety is responsible for developing and implementing programs and policies that ensure the overall safety and health of employees and that enables compliant business operations. The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist 1 position administers and implements Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs and procedures in collaboration with the EH&S Supervisor. This position follows established procedures to support personnel in order to maintain compliance with facility / corporate EHS policies, agency regulations, and best management practices. The individual will perform routine tasks with instruction and supervision, and apply company policies and procedures in order to plan and accomplish goals.Duties and Responsibilities : Aid in the management and administration of all site safety and environmental programs, including Chemical Hygiene, Biological Safety, and Fire Safety.Aid in the management of investigations of accidents and work-related injuries or illnesses. Coordinate tracking of cases by maintaining OSHA 300 Logs and corporate incident reporting system and follow-up Workers’ Compensation case management activities. Review and improve the site's Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) as needed.Assist in the management of the site's Ergonomics Program. Act as a liaison to associates and others receiving or requesting ergonomic evaluations. Coordinate follow-up activities, track evaluations and equipment orders.Assist in the management of the site's EHS Training Program. Provide limited training on pre-established safety curriculum. Maintain Health & Safety Training database. Generate reports and coordinate scheduling.Provide review and periodic updates of written safety and environmental programs including SOPs and Work Instructions (WIs).Schedule and participate in quarterly Safety Council meetings. Produce and distribute meeting minutes. Coordinate communications with committee members.Conduct laboratory evaluations to evaluate adherence with regulations, write reports as required, and report activities to EHS Supervisor.Oversee and coordinate scheduling and documentation of monthly testing of all eye washes and emergency showers, monthly inspection of all fire extinguishers, and safety equipment needs at the site.Coordinate quarterly site inspections of all departments including documentation and follow-up in support of the EHS Supervisor.Ensure all equipment and areas are posted with correct warning signs and labels as per defined guidelines.Keep abreast of the basic requirements for compliance in own area of work and compliance with those requirements. Participate as required in training on regulatory issues affecting own area of work. Bring regulatory compliance questions / issues to the attention of management.Ensure EH&S training through the implementation of safety awareness programs. Participate in scheduled departmental safety inspections and assist in identifying corrective actions for identified hazards. Ensure EH&S policies and procedures are followed through education and training. Discuss and document pertinent EH&S topics at staff meetings. Participate as a standing member of the Safety Committee.Update and maintain action items within EHS databases.
