In the 2024 planting season, we have restored over 21,000 acres (over 8,500 hectares) of land globally, planting over 13 million trees.
Land Life’s fifth season of implementation in Colorado will be conducted from mid-April to mid-November. Over 550 hectares of fire affected lands are being restored this season.
Responsibilities
Land Life is looking for one to two full-time seasonal Operations Assistant who will be in charge of executing the planting quality monitoring with multiple seasonals monitoring and undergraduate interns for the 2025 Colorado reforestation projects. In this role, responsibilities will include operational planning and implementing silviculture prescriptions for various projects. While this is primarily a field-based position with travel to different sites in Colorado and potentially other states. Protocol training will be provided by the Head of Operations - North America and Rocky Mountain Operations Manager. This position will report to the Head of Operations - North America.

Operations Assistant will:
- Edit, review, and work on current and future reforestation project planning/technical designs.
- Work on reporting associated with reforestation projects.
- Assist in partnerships and outreach events.
- Conduct field scouting, ensure quality data collection and processing, and mark boundaries for planting sites.
- Work with Head of Operations and the Operations Manager to schedule and arrange the day-to-day execution of monitoring and travels between field sites by coordinating with work schedule of interns and reforestation operations to develop weekly monitoring plans
- Help train and lead the monitoring team and undergraduate interns by providing day-to-day instructions, support, safety briefings, and guidance on how to collect accurate data, species identification, use of the monitoring app, and ensure the compliance of field health and safety
- Regularly inspect the collected data to ensure that the quality control and assurance standards have been met
- Regularly maintain good condition of monitoring equipment
- Conducting contractor quality audits
- Consistently update Land Life staff on progress and promptly report any resource needs or issues while collaborating with partnering agencies
- Be a major contributor to the final monitoring reports by the end of the project duration

Work schedule
- The anticipated duration is 21 April until 14 November, 2025
- This is a full-time position (40 hr/wk) with possibility to work on weekends/holidays and potential for overtime pay. Scheduling will be varied but predominantly 4 days 10 hours with 3 days off or 8 days 10 hours with 6 days off.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Forestry, Natural Resources, GIS/Remote Sensing, Environmental Science or Studies or any related field. Degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or similar.
- 1-3 years of experience in Natural Resource positions
- Has experience in fieldwork involving plant species identification, plant measurements, stand delineation and site scouting/assessment experience, forest management project layout experience, and data collection
- Have experience leading and managing people, especially under field conditions working with people from diverse backgrounds, and able to promote a positive and safe team environment
- Be able to work for long hours under various field conditions such as steep and uneven terrain, lift up to 50 lb (23 kg), and carry some basic field equipment beside their personal belongings (e.g., drinking water, lunch, sun screen)
- Ability to work alone in the outdoors in rough, brushy, and uneven terrain in all weather conditions required.
- Have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Be comfortable driving a truck on uneven and rough roads.
- Have proficiency in GIS, Google workspace, Avenza, Onx and ability to learn new software tools.
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills focused on collaboration and building relationships within diverse teams, both verbally and in writing
- Maintain a positive attitude and the ability to be flexible with shifting plans if necessary.
- Able to take direction and quickly learn new procedures and processes, as well as willing to solve new problems
- Have a great work ethic (especially around health, safety, and respect for diversity), attention to detail, and punctuality
- Experience working with many different stakeholders and partners
- Have personal field gear necessary to carry out the work (e.g., backpack, hiking shoes, rain jacket), a smartphone that can run the Land Life Company monitoring app (Android 13 or iOS 12.0 or later.), and access to a computer (necessary field equipment needed for monitoring and personal protective equipment will be provided)
- Hourly rate of $25 dollar per worked hour
- If required to use a personal vehicle for work, employees will be reimbursed at the federal rate of $0.655/miles
- 13 hours of Paid Time Off per month based on a full time working schedule. Actual accrual will be based on actual hours worked.
