Job Summary:
The Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, grant program reporting compliance, and other related financial activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversees the Accounting operations, which include accounting operations, which includes financial accounting, accounts payable, and payroll.
- Oversees the system of internal controls over accounting functions to minimize risk.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
- Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
- Maintains the general ledger, including the preparation and input of monthly journal entries for expense amortization and allocation, revenue recognition, liability accruals, etc. and performs analyses of general ledger accounts and posts adjusting journal entries as deemed necessary.
- Verifies accounts payable functions such as coding invoices, setting up new accounts, and reconciling vendor statements and outstanding payables.
- Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
- Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
- Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
- Files grant program forms with the appropriate state agencies.
- Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
- As appropriate, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
- Manages the purchasing and invoicing systems.
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Assists in the development of annual budgets.
- Assists in the development and implementation of company goals and priorities relating to financial management, budget, accounting purchasing, and or/ payroll in compliance with state and federal law and company policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Quickbooks accounting software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field, required.
- 1-2 years of related experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Pay depends on experience.
