The Haven Project is seeking a passionate, responsible and hardworking, go-getter who is experienced in food service, to lead our social enterprise café, Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee, to increased profitability. Core responsibilities for our Café Manager position include daily management and business development for Haven Project’s social enterprise, Thousand Hills Café, a key connection point for community and individual donors.
The Café Manager plays a vital role in overseeing daily café operations while actively supporting The Haven Project’s Job Training Program, which provides meaningful employment experiences for young adults facing housing insecurity. This position ensures the café operates smoothly, fosters a welcoming atmosphere, and serves as a bridge between our social enterprise and the young adults we serve.
Reports To: Haven Project Director of Career Development
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or minimum of 3 years of demonstrated supervisory skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Proficiency in training and mentorship
- A lead-by-example approach
- Attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to mentoring and training youth.x
- Adherence to high quality and consistent standards
- Ability to multi-task with ease
- Ability to delegate tasks
- Cash handling skills and proficiency with financials
- Management of labor utilization and inventory
- Spanish speaking (Preferred)
Key responsibilities of Cafe Manager
Cafe Management
- Regularly audit cleanliness, organization, and attractiveness of store’s interior and exterior
- Ensure compliance with food safety guidelines by all staff
- Protect store assets, facilities, and employees by ensuring all employees' adherence to operational guidelines and standards and ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of store equipment
- Create new opportunities to increase sales including but not limited to catering, room rental, city promotions
- Educate customers and staff on all of our products
- Ensure café-based job trainees are following established training plans
- Responsibility for inventory, ordering, scheduling, HR duties, and regular staff meetings with café staff
- Update procedures and detailed manual for all café positions
- Create and update customer facing café materials and café communications to increase customer stewardship and engagement
- Co-develop and implement store strategic plans and marketing plans with our management team
- Develop marketing materials and measurable promotional opportunities for the store
- Responsibility for café staff payroll, closing of weekly/monthly café expenses/income and audit of café register/safe
- Other tasks and projects as assigned
Job Training and Career Development
- Ensure that job trainees from The Haven Project’s Job Training Program receive meaningful work experiences that align with their career development goals.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and skill-building opportunities to job trainees.
- Work closely with the Director of Career Development to align café responsibilities with individualized training plans.
- Partner with the Client Services team to connect café operations with broader job training and support services.
