What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lois Wood Law Student Fellowship position at Land of Lincoln Legal Aid?
Want to make a difference this summer? Land of Lincoln Legal Aid seeks a motivated law student to
join us as a Summer Fellow in our East St. Louis office. Land of Lincoln Legal Aid provides free
civil legal services to low-income individuals in 65 counties in Illinois. We are committed to working for
justice with those whose voices might otherwise not be heard; to assist individuals in advocating for
themselves; and to make positive changes in collaboration with the communities we serve. Our
attorneys provide holistic legal advocacy in partnership with community organizations, social service
agencies, and faith-based groups.
The law student fellow will assist clients in a variety of substantive areas of law that may include: tenant
rights and eviction, sealing and expungements, public benefits, consumer, family law, domestic violence
prevention, and foreclosure defense. The fellow may also work with community partners and perform
outreach.
- Interview clients and follow up with them by email and telephone
- Draft pleadings, letters, and memorandums of law
- Conduct legal research, investigations, and collect evidence
- Attend court and administrative hearings; if licensed pursuant to Rule 711, may represent clients
- Other duties as assigned
- Completed 1L or 2L year of law school
- Strong commitment to social and racial justice
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work with people of diverse social, economic,

- Excellent verbal, analytical, writing and organization skills
- Highly motivated, with a strong attention to detail
- Applicants must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and car insurance.
- Applicants must have regular access to a computer and internet.
Compensation:
$6,500.00 for 400 hours of work over 10 weeks during the summer of 2025.
