The Landis Gyr Co-op program is designed to enhance the quality and scope of learning by providing students with the option of integrating academic study with related, work-based learning. Applicants must be enrolled in the undergraduate Bachelors degree program and available for an alternating rotating 3-semester schedule. This rotation is for May-August 2025; students will be working on-site at our Lafayette, Indiana location fulltime hours Monday through Friday. This is a paid position but we don't offer housing assistance so only local candidates will be considered.
Project Overview
Will work with the design team to develop electricity metering products. The direct responsibilities will be with PCBs/PCBAs, electronic circuits, schematic and layout activities, test and analysis to validate designs and provide feedback/recommendations to the team.
In addition to the direct value add work described, this role will also work on independent projects that will have indirect or long-term value add to the company. This could be through automation of design/test/analysis, development evaluation of prospective design ideas, or root cause troubleshooting analysis of issues/anomalies.
Will become familiar with electronic design practices including design, test, review, layout, documentation, collaboration, etc. Will work with the engineering team as well as a team of other co-ops and interns. Will be provided mentorship and hands on experience with electronic circuits, PCBAs, test, and analysis.
Will be required to be able to communicate effectively through written reports and verbally. Will be required to present a summary of the work experience at the end of term.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to evaluate and refine designs.
- Testing of hardware for compliance with national standards.
- Create automated tests and data collection utilities.
- Execute testing of energy storage solutions and assist in processing and analyzing data.
- Willing to become familiar with equipment like oscilloscopes, network analyzers, DMMs, gauss meter, data acquisition devices, soldering irons, environmental chambers, etc.
- Participate in engineering development processes such as design reviews or DFMEAs.
- Evaluate prototype assemblies for integration into new products.
Required Experience: Students must be undergraduate students working towards their Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
