Summary: The patient care technician or certified nursing assistant will provide patient care under the direction and supervision of nursing. The primary commitment is to the patient, so an important responsibility includes following through with tasks and following up on communication with the nursing and RT staff to help provide optimal patient care. Two weekend monthly requirement.
Patient Care Technician Responsibilities:
- Perform basic care skills under the direct supervision of the licensed nurse including vital signs, intake/output measurement, catheter care, CPR, restraint management, bowel and bladder training, and documentation of care in the patient record.
- Responsible for assisting the licensed nurse in meeting the patients' needs in the areas of personal hygiene, personal care, skin care, grooming, rest, activity, nourishment, body mechanics, elimination, and psychosocial support.
- Provide adequate, safe care, maintain knowledge about each patient assigned and participate in reports with nursing and other unit techs. Requires attention to detail related to patient care restrictions and special instructions or issues (diet instructions, fall risk etc).
Patient Care Technician Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Certified Nursing Assistant Licensure preferred
- 1-3 years of related experience, preferably in a hospital setting
- Must be organized, a team player and detail-oriented
- Good computer and math skills
- Current Basic Life Support certification
