Key Responsibilities:
- Ingredient Preparation:
- Wash, peel, chop, slice, and dice various vegetables, fruits, and other food items.
- Weigh and measure ingredients accurately according to the recipe requirements.
- Food Safety and Sanitation:
- Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards to ensure the safety of food preparation.
- Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils regularly.
- Inventory Management:
- Assist in monitoring and restocking kitchen supplies, such as spices, condiments, and other food items.
- Notify the kitchen manager or chef of low stock items to ensure a well-prepared kitchen.
- Dishwashing and Cleaning:
- Assist in dishwashing and keeping the kitchen and preparation areas clean and organized.
- Properly dispose of waste and recyclables.
- Assisting the Cooks:
- Support line cooks and chefs by providing them with prepared ingredients as needed.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff in maintaining a smooth workflow.
- Quality Control:
- Inspect ingredients and prepared items for freshness, quality, and consistency.
- Report any quality or safety concerns to the kitchen supervisor.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Help with the cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment and appliances.
- Report any malfunction or issues with kitchen equipment to management.
- Multi-Tasking:
- Handle multiple tasks efficiently and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Be ready to assist in various kitchen activities as required.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent is typically preferred.
- Previous experience as a prep cook or in a similar kitchen role is beneficial but not always required.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Familiarity with basic kitchen equipment and tools.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow recipes accurately.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- Physical stamina and the ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to kitchen procedures and practices.
