Floating Assistant Teacher
Position Overview
Join our dynamic and inclusive team at Landmark Preschool, located in Westport, CT. In this role, you will serve as a floating assistant teacher, supporting preschool classrooms—including 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, and Fundamentals—throughout the day. The ideal candidate is flexible, approachable, and has a positive attitude. This is a faculty position that follows the academic year calendar. Hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM–5:30 PM.

In this role, you will assist head teachers by implementing planned activities and lesson plans. You’ll work closely with other assistant teachers to care for students and support their learning and development throughout the day. You should be able to interact effectively with preschool-aged students, using a variety of teaching methods and positive encouragement while supporting the mission and curriculum of the school.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Teacher by implementing planned activities and lesson plans that support age-appropriate development.
- Prepare materials and set up the classroom for activities and lessons.
- Use appropriate language, interactions, and positive discipline; model positive behavior.
- Actively participate in large and small group activities; provide support during specials.
- Engage and lead students in both learning and play.
- Monitor children to ensure their safety at all times.
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor recess.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and family information; refer parent questions to the head teacher.
- Support classroom setup and cleanup and follow the head teacher's guidance to provide assistance as needed.
- Follow Landmark Preschool’s policies and procedures.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience working with children; classroom experience a plus.
- Ability to move easily and work actively with young children, including regular bending, kneeling, and stretching.
Compensation
Hourly Rate: $22–$24 per hour, based on experience.
