What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laundry and Uniform Attendant - The Langham, Chicago position at Langham Hospitality Group?
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:
Distribute clean uniforms to colleagues, receive soiled uniforms, and ensure proper cleaning of such. Coordinate cleaning of guest and hotel management laundry/dry cleaning, assist with mending of uniforms, operate small washing machines and coordinate and maintain cleanliness in laundry area workspace.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:
- Collect used uniforms and issue clean uniforms to designated colleagues.
- Legibly document information on uniform slips and distribute accurately.
- Legibly document information on uniform cards for new colleagues; issue and make necessary alterations for new colleague uniforms.
- Size, issue and properly document uniforms for all colleagues.
- Legibly document and coordinate guest and hotel management laundry/dry cleaning and hotel uniforms to be picked up and cleaned by external service company.
- Inspect condition, charges, and number of cleaned items received from service company; resolve any discrepancies.
- Organize all cleaned laundry/dry cleaning and uniforms into designated order and racks.
- Monitor and maintain the orderly and clean condition of the uniform room.
- Remove substandard uniforms from circulation and assign replacements.
- Monitor and maintain accurate records of all assigned and unassigned uniforms.
- Distribute all paperwork to designated colleagues/departments.
- Process guest requests for pressing and minor repairs of clothes as assigned.
- Attend to all sewing requirements for the guests and offer consultations when necessary.
- Work with little or no supervision.
- Report all shortages, damages, maintenance requests, problems and linen/uniform availability to management.
- Maintain close liaison with the laundry service company to ensure the service provided meets the hotel's standards.
- Monitor and maintain the clean and orderly condition of the linen room; ensure security of all hotel property.
- Monitor and maintain designated supply levels.
- Handle complaints by following the instant pacification procedures, ensuring guest satisfaction.
- Promote positive relations with guests and employees.
- Successfully complete the training/certification process.
- Complete inventory of uniforms and hotel linens as assigned.
- Complete special projects involving mending/sewing as assigned.
- Sort and document dirty and clean hotel linens.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Lifting 50 lbs. Maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 15lbs.
- Requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
- Talking, hearing, bending and seeing.
SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Ability to do basic arithmetic.
- Basic knowledge of sewing and tailoring repair work.
- Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through, courtesy, cooperativeness and work with a minimum of supervision.
- Ability to exert physical effort in the movement of cleaned/soiled uniforms, guest laundry/dry cleaning and table linens.
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Previous seamstress/tailor experience preferred.

- None needed.
SALARY RANGE:
- $20.61 - $25.76/hour
